Hi everyone,
April 11th will mark 6 years since my mother, Kathryn, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54. With my wife and I moving into our 1st home in the last year, I've had constant reminders of my mother's legacy continuing on within me. While I've inherited some of her darkness, I'm getting frequent reminders of the light within her that she passed on to me as well - appreciating the little things in life and the importance of sharing my love with others.
For those that don't know, one of the many challenges we faced together was food insecurity. In my last years living with her, I relied on the kindness of neighbors, the local food pantry, and reduced/free lunches at school. When there were gaps, I did not eat.
To honor her life and remind myself of the current privilege I'm blessed to have, every year since her passing I've decided to fast the day of her death and fundraise for a local non-profit, Full Plates Full Potential , who's mission is to combat child hunger in Maine. Every year, we've managed to raise at least $1,000 through all of your generosity!
I've decided to use GoFundMe as a means for me to reach the various support networks in my life. As in past years, I will leverage Unum's company match to DOUBLE our impact!
Let me know if you have any questions, would prefer to donate offline, or just to chat.
With love,
Ben
