On July 21st Dan got off a 24hr shift and shortly after headed out for a run from Spokane Valley Fire Department Station 2. Towards the end of his run Dan noticed that he was not feeling well and called his wife letting her know he was headed back to the station. At approximately 1240 Dan experience a significant medical event that caused Dan to go into cardiac arrest. We believe Dan knew that he was in trouble and that his best chance was his fire family- he knew where help was. Crew members on A-Shift remarkably located Dan at the front door of Station 2 and immediately began resuscitative efforts. Dans brothers and sister performed flawlessly and were able to attain return of spontaneous circulation. Dan was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center where he has remained in the ICU. Dan and his family have a long road ahead of them with unforeseen expenses that cannot be predicted or covered by insurances.
