In racing it's not if you crash, its when you crash. Anyone who races knows the risks and accepts them. Racers know that they could get seriously hurt or even killed. These things rarely happen, but when they do, racer(s) pays a big price. Unfortunately, on Sunday Dave Dymond was the one who had to pay the price with some serious injuries.
Half way through the first lap of the WAR Supermoto Triple Crown series race, Dave's handlebars must've clipped another rider because it pulled bars out of his hands. Dave rode off into the dirt where he and the motorcycle were launched atleast ten feet in the air. The crash was surreal. When Dave hit the ground he was still, not moving. Suddenly he sat up but he obviously sustained some serious injuries. Dave couldn't form complete sentences. There bones in his shoulder that were broken and you could see pushing on skin from the inside. His right side(the side he landed on) was already swelling in spots and when his jersey and body armor were removed the road rash was seen.
Dave was having trouble breathing and was in a serious amount of pain. The pain was so great that Dave wasn't able to undress out of his riding gear. Luckily for Dave, some of his friends undressed and dressed him.
No one thought that the injuries would so bad. Collapsed lung(its collapsed more since the crash), numerous broken bones including 5 ribs and he sustained some road rash on his right side.
Dave has been in the Riverside Community Hospital since Sunday afternoon. The doctors checked Dave for any internal bleeding in his as well as CT scan to check his brain. By the grace of god Dave sustained no trauma or injury to his brain. That is a miracle, and anyone who saw the crash would agree.
Dave hasn't complained. Last night Dave underwent a procedure where they inserted a tube into his chest. Dave said this morning it hurt. In reality "it hurt" was a huge understatement. Apparently the pain was so severe that Dave wouldn't move because it made the pain worse. Dave knuckled up and took it and didn't complain.
As of this afternoon, Brandie(Dave's wife) is working on having Dave transferred from Riverside to a hospital closer to their house.
Once Dave is released from the hospital he still has a long road to recovery. As of today the doctor told Dave and Brandie that he will be out of work for atleast three months. Dave works construction and most construction workers don't get paid if they don't work. Dave is the bread winner in the Dymond family and if he can't work for three months than they will be put in a financial strain(the same financial strain most of us would be in if we were in the same spot).
Dave is seriously injured with months of healing until he'll be back to normal. And something that many may not know is that Brandie and Dave are expecting their fourth child in 5-6 months. Between Dave's injuries and Brandie pregnancy, they need to focus on getting healthy and staying healthy. What they do not need to do is worry and stress over bills. Dave needs to focus on healing up and getting physically ready for another child and getting back to work.
Anyone who knows Dave knows he's a down to earth cool guy. Everyone that knows him likes him. Dave is genuine. And that is why we're launching the Go Fund Me campaign for Dave.
Dave and Brandie knew nothing about this until last night. The Go Fund Me campaign wasn't posted because Dave asked for it not to be posted. After talking with friends and family Dave said yes to a Go Fund Me campaign. Dave is no different then any of us. Everyone of us is proud and we don't want to take hand outs. But this isn't a handout. Its helping a friend, a buddy, and fellow racer,...
The position that Dave and Brandie are in is same position most racers would be in if they were in Dave's shoes. With that being said, I am asking for your help. Do not think of this as charity. Think of it as helping a fellow racer and their family. I'm not asking for a lot, I'm just asking everyone to chip in a little if they can. We decided to set the goal at $6000. That will give them the money to cover bills for 3-4 months. If everyone chipped in a little we can make this happen. Put yourself in the Dymond's shoes. If you were injured as bad as Dave and your wife was pregnant wouldn't you grateful if your friends and fellow racers came through for you?
Something I always loved about racing.....racers have a heart. Most racers will help other racers. I think there is an unwritten rule of racing......help your fellow racers if you can. Now is one of those times when a fellow racer needs a hand. Please help if you can.
