Nicaragua GIVE Volunteer Trip
Donation protected
Hi!
My name is Sara Murtagh and I am currently a sophomore nursing student at UMASS Amherst. It is almost impossible for nursing students to study abroad so I thought I could volunteer my time elsewhere to make a difference in a third world country.
My friend Rachel Tripp, who is going to Africa in May, inspired me to look into the GIVE volunteer program and I became very interested in volunteering my time in Nicaragua. GIVE's mission is to inspire growth, empower global citizens, and ignite sustainable change in the world.
I will be traveling to Nicaragua for two weeks in June. There, I will work one on one teaching local children English with a focus on reading and writing, as well as computer skills and basic health. Our group will also build infrastructures out of recycled materials, such as schools made out of plastic bottles. The use of salvaged plastic bottles saves money and reduces pollution. GIVE volunteers support endangered turtle conservation and freshwater cleanup as well.
I have always been passionate to help others and spread kindness which is why I am embarking on this journey and pursuing a career in nursing. I hope to make an impact on the lives of others and be the roots of change. I am so excited for this once in a life time opportunity.
Thank you so much for reading this and any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated.
