Dear Family, Friends and Strangers,
I'm writting to you on behalf of my good friend and boat partner, Mat Cox, Jr. Many of you know Mat already but many of you may not. Mat, a native of Newport Beach was on his annual trip to Maui for the Thanksgiving holiday with his long time friend and companion Courtney (Corky) Watson and others. While out for a meal Mat excused himself from the dinner table to use the restroom. After approximately 10 minutes Mat had not returned so Corky went to see if he was ok. They found Mat on the bathroom floor. He had suffered a moderate/major stroke. Corky called 911 immediately and Mat is now in a medically induced coma in the hospital on Maui. From what I am told Mat is in the best hospital in Hawaii for victims of stroke. For those of you who don't know Mat, he runs the fuel delivery service for Hill's Boat Service in Newport Harbor. Mat is one of those people you really look forward to seeing. As honest as they come, Mat always has something nice to say.
Mat has insurance but it doesn't come close to covering everything. The bills will be piling up quickly. The doctors said he won't be in any condition to travel for at least 3 weeks. Corky is staying with him over on Maui and the owner of the property they are renting is working with them on payment given the circumstances.
I know this news comes at a stressful time of year for many of you. Please, give what you can. Every little bit helps.
