Electric Wheelchair Fund

Hi,

Firstly thank you for looking at my story.

I am a 28 year old women with a disability that affects my mobility which is getting worse. I have been very fortunate to find my dream job recently, however my disabilty has worsened since I started and I now require a wheelchair to get into work and out of the house. My devoted partner is taking me to and from work at the moment in a manual wheelchair. Neither of us drive, so he has been taking me on the train to work and coming all the way back to get me home again. He is also looking for work and as soon as he finds it I will lose my job as I won't be able to get in and out of work without an electric wheelchair.  I have struggled with this disability and continuous pain for ten years but I am determined to not let it stop me living my life and being a functional member of society. During this ten years I was ending my time as a carer finishing college and working. I had an accident at one of my jobs which worsened my condition (I did not sue the company as I felt it was truly an accident). After my condition worsened I started to walk with a crutch to support me and I could not find work, no one would look twice at me, so with the support of my partner and family I decided to go to university, because I was determined to get working again and if no one would hire me I would gain the skills I needed to start my own business. After finishing university my partner and I moved to find a better life for ourselves and I have been so fortunate to find a very good job which I hope will turn into my career.
I was a carer for twelve years myself from the age of nine for my Grandmother and then my Mother when she fell terminally ill. I know how hard and difficult life can get but I also know how incredible people can be, and that there are many generous, supporting and kind people out there that are willing to help.
I find it very difficult to ask for help because I was raised to be independant and to look after myself, however this job is so important to me, for my physical and mental health, that I cannot bear the thought of losing it, this is my dream career and I will do all that I can to keep it. Currently we have one wage supporting two people and we are really struggling just trying to afford the extra money needed for my partners travel to help me in and out of work.
I have started this page in the hope that someone will read my story and be in a position to help even if it is a small bit it all counts, and I am truely grateful for anything that I receive . Thank you again for taking the time to read my story.
