This is for our little guy Rascal. Our 10 year old baby is in need of a bilateral perineal hernia repair. Unfortunately, Rascal's infamous bedhead hair was covering up the signs of these hernias around his bum and we caught on to them only about a week ago while grooming him.

At that time his hernias were only about 1/2 an inch-1 inch in diameter so we assumed it was probably his anal glands that were maybe inflamed. We scheduled him for an exam with his Vet and found out they are actually perineal hernias that need to be treated by a specialist rather soon.

Since last Thursday 1/21/21, Rascal's hernias have grown about a half an inch on each side. Leaving us with a timeline of 3 weeks to get him through surgery before the swelling grows.
Perineal hernias result from weakening or complete failure of the muscular diaphragm of the pelvis. Normally, the pelvic diaphragm allows for rectal support and keeps the abdominal contents from encroaching on the rectum.
In Rascals case, his perineal hernias are adjacent to his rectum on both sides. If left untreated, swelling may grow and soon contain herniated abdominal and pelvic canal contents, such as a dilated rectum, prostate, urinary bladder, fat, omentum, and small intestine.
Today 1/26/21, Rascal was scheduled for a surgical consultation with a specialist in San Jose. The specialist let us know it’s very uncommon for a neutered dog to get the type of hernias rascal was diagnosed with. They will have to do blood work an ultrasound and a chest X-ray to make sure there are no other underlying conditions that are causing straining around his rectum and that he is cancer free. He will get two 2-4 inch incisions on each side of his tail to push the fat back and repair the muscle wall in the area. He may need drains in the area and will have to stay at the hospital for 1-2 nights and be on pain meds for 2 weeks until he can get his sutures removed.
The estimate for the treatment is $6,000-$8,000.
This little guy means more than anything in the world to me! My little feisty shadow needs help and it breaks my heart we are not able to fund this procedure on our own.
With a timeline of 3 weeks, and being in the middle of this pandemic, I know this is a huge ask to donate money during these extremely tough times but any little bit would help. We would be forever grateful to everyone of you, even if you just share Rascals story. Thank you.
