As some of you may be aware, my sister-in-law Kathleen (Kat) has been courageously battling Basal cell carcinoma for the past three years. What started as a recurring itch in her right ear has led to 5 surgeries to excise the cancerous tissue and, as you can imagine, a great deal of expenses not covered by insurance. The battle is not over, and the next treatment plan her physicians are recommending will require a great deal of travel, lost wages due to missed work and may require Kat to temporarily relocate her family. Kathleen gives everything of herself both as a mother raising two teenagers on her own as well as professionally as a clinical social worker and psychotherapist. Kat is truly the definition of a person who would give you the shirt off of their back.
