Kangaroo Island Firefighters Appeal
UPDATES 09.01.2020 - Today's conditions are set to deteroiate again and fire to threaten eastern areas of Kangaroo Island. Matt who firefights for us farms with his father, today fire threatens their farm and their house. They have done everything they can by setting up irrigators on their house fed from a dam but now its a waiting game for them.
UPDATES 03.01.2020 - Horendous day with conditons escalated and fire ravaged thousands more hecatares. Mick who firefights for us lost his home, the wilderness resort he manages and 500 of his own beehives.

Rencon Forestry has provided forestry fire services on Kangaroo Island (trained under the CFS) for the past 5 years. We have a small group of loyal and extremely capable local firefighters whose usual day jobs comprise of farming, shearing, fencing, beekeeping, plantation management and tourist related support services, all integral parts of keeping a remote island community on its feet. It has broken my heart to see what is happening down on KI and the rest of fire affected areas of Australia.

Although this is what we are trained for, nothing can prepare you for what has happened, is currently happening and what is yet to come. People in rural communities are usually very tough and resilient but the current situation is wearing everyone down. Resources are stretched, firefighters are tired, and everyone knows someone who has lost property or dealing with trauma in some way.
(Current land/area devastated by fires)
One of our key casually employed members of staff lives with his wife in a remote part of the island near Cape Borda. On the 31st December he had to drop tools firefighting for us on one of our client’s plantations to go home and protect his own property. He has spent the last 3 days fending off ember attacks and fire threat and after tireless efforts has managed to save his property, others have not been so lucky or prepared. Unfortunately, last night the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat where he works part time has been reduced to ashes so work now for him has become very limited.
As many other social media posts or fund-raising campaigns going on right now, financial donations are the easiest and by far the most effective ways of giving when you feel helpless watching from afar.
Rhyy is the wife of Ben, one of our firefighters and active CFS members in Parndana. Rhyy will distribute the funds to the local CFS Brigades on the Island. In turn these funds will not only help the brigades with providing food, water and essentials while their local members are out fighting fires but will help with maintenance on fire applicances and equipment which is under never seen before stress.
Any donation big or small will help go to simple things that we all take for granted at this time.
The funds will be drawn in my name then sent via EFT to Rhyy Gaskin.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
