From Percys daughter in law Hannah:
Anyone who knew Percy knew that he was never sick and never took a sick day. He lived for his family, fishing, work, and cooking. There wasn't anything he wouldn’t do for anyone, to support them or care for them. He taught so many of us how to fish, how to fix a tool, and how to hunt. But most importantly he taught his sons how to be a man, a father, and a husband. Not a day will go by where we won’t be reminded of him we won’t see him in his chair watching Bonanza with a lap full of puppies, or standing over his grill cooking. His extended work family won't forget where he would park his truck every day because on September 8th Percy would have made 40 years with Delta Rigging & Tools. Percy would remind us that even when our struggles brought us down we needed to push through and conquer them.
Yet on August 4th, Percy fell ill with the COVID-19 virus. He battled it at home for days until he had to be rushed to the hospital for lack of oxygen. On August 11th he was admitted to the ICU and immediately placed on a ventilator. His wife Leslie and Hannah visited him every day for 17 days, talking to him, brushing his hair, reading his favorite western, and telling him how much we loved him. We were told we only had a few days left with him but we didn’t give up. We wanted to let him know that no matter what that his family and friends would support and hold him up and allow him to cast a net over this disease and conquer it. The days before his passing, his sons Seth and Shawn would come to see him for what we didn’t realize would be the last time. He succumbed to his illness the next morning on August 28, 2021.
He left behind all of us who loved him but most importantly he left behind his wife Leslie and his youngest son Seth. Who are the ones who needed him the most. If you are able, we ask that you please donate to help with his hospital expenses as well as memorial and future care for his wife. Once we close off donations, all funds will do directly to Percys widow Leslie.
Thank you for your support of our family and for being a part of the life of Percy Schexnayder.
