Help Kapela Beat Leukemia

Donation protected
9/30/20: This campaign will be closing. Thank you all from the bottom of Kapela's and her family's hearts. We are eternally grateful. If you still want to do something to help please consider donating blood to the Blood Bank of Hawaii . Or register as a potential bone marrow donor with Be The Match . You can save someone's life. Mahalo piha.

Kapela Wong,  was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2016. After just two rounds of extensive chemotherapy, Kapela was in remission.  During this time, she started to make strides to reclaim her life while enduring the remaining 2 years of her chemotherapy treatment. Now, 3 years later her life hangs in the balance again.

Kapela was re-diagnosed with a relapse just this past November and the leukemia has also moved in her spine affecting her central nervous system. Kapela’s eyesight and nerves were damaged. Make no mistake, Kapela is a fighter. She is a positive beam of light and an inspiration to keep going no matter how dark it gets. Her eyesight is back to normal and she has regained the strength to walk with assistance. She is currently undergoing a special treatment plan that allows her to continue treatment at home, however, it impacts her and her family's quality of life.  Her special treatment is working because she is in remission again, but to really beat this, Kapela needs to pursue treatment in Seattle. Yes, she is in remission now but she can’t stop pursuing treatment now.

The Plan:
The plan is for Kapela to undergo treatment in Seattle where she will receive a bone marrow and blood transplant. Treatment is expected to take at minimum four (4) months and she will have to remain in Seattle away from her family who lives in Hawai’i. She will need a caregiver to be in Seattle with her which means family members will have to take turns being in Seattle with her. So in addition to the cost of medical treatment, she also needs to raise funds for travel and living in Seattle.

Kapela is only 28 years old and has to beat this. She needs to be here for her husband, Kaihi, and their two children, Kahiliokalani who is 7 and Kawelonaakala who is 5. Seattle could be her hope for a long life with her family. Please help us get her to Seattle for treatment.

Any little bit counts. And if you are unable to make a monetary donation, I implore you to consider signing up to become a potential bone marrow donor (Be the Match ). Who knows, you could save her or someone else needing a transplant.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
