A Choreographers Dream

To Whom This May Concern:

I am writing to you on behalf of Safiyyah Dance Company to request your support of our dance school and our recent acceptance to the Choreographers cup in Los Angeles, CA. , which will be held on Aug. 14-15,  2014. Our mission for Safiyyah Dance Company:

Safiyyah Dance Company, one of Louisville’s talented dance companies, provides arts and cultural opportunities to students and the community of all ages. We are dedicated to the art of dance. We work hard to introduce and inspire a healthy balance of self-expression, discipline, and passion in each of our students. Our goal is to offer each dancer an opportunity to experience the fundamentals of dance; confidence, coordination, creativity, musicality, rhythm, self-esteem, technique and above all Fun!

Safiyyah Dance Company’s outreach in the community is tremendous. Over the course of the past 7 years we have worked with numerous companies, community centers, schools and individuals such as directing and choreographing for programs at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, The Louisville Ballet, Governors School for the Arts, Jefferson County Public Schools, Home of the Innocents, Metro Parks, Louisville Public Libraries and others.

Safiyyah Dance Company serves a broad segment of the Greater Louisville Area by focusing on the development of diverse programs along with an accepting and inclusive community. We offer a variety dance styles from Hip Hop, Break dancing, Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Contemporary dance. Instructors focus on teaching different dance techniques, discipline, and confidence in class. Our most popular classes are Hip Hop and Break Dancing, in which 30% of the students attending these classes are financial scholarship students paid for by yearly support of private donors.

Recently Safiyyah Rasool (choreographer and co-owner of Safiyyah Dance Co.) has been accepted into the Choreographers cup, powered by Monsters of Hip Hop. One of the countries largest hip hop dance organizations. The Choreographers Cup is the ultimate challenge for aspiring choreographers.

Safiyyah was challenged to choreograph a dance and make it into a 60 second advertisement commercial. She selected 6 dancers within the company ranging in ages 12-22 to be a part of the commercial. We are happy to announce that she was selected as one of 20 choreographers to continue the competition in Los Angeles California! She also has the privilege of bringing with her the 5 dancers from our commercial submission. So on Aug. 14-15, 2014 we will be in LA to compete in the next round of the Choreographers Cup, where they will be judged by world renowned choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo of So You Think You Can Dance; Jamal Sims choreographer for movies Step up 5 and Footloose; and Marty Kudelka who has choreographed for Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. This is an amazing opportunity for these dancers, the Louisville dance community and Safiyyah! Safiyyah was the only choreographer out of Kentucky selected.

Would you be willing to contribute to help us reach that goal?

Remember, every little bit helps. Regardless of whether you can contribute $5 or $500, we will be able to use these funds to grow as dancers and experience an opportunity of a lifetime.
