Help Joshua Fight Leukemia – Our World Has Been Turned Upside Down

In late October, 2025 everything flipped our world as we knew it.

Joshua was having severe pain on his left side. After trying everything at home a mother knows how to treat based on what he expressed, I took him to the ER on October 24. He was sent home with a school note and told to “tough it out.” since he was a bigger boy and it wasn't injury related. Had they took the time to give him a CT scan and blood work they would have seen how hard his body was trying to fight his cancer, with a white blood cell count over 250,000.

His pain was unbearable, and we rushed to another ER. That night, after blood work, Joshua was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)—a rare and aggressive blood and bone marrow cancer. His spleen was so enlarged, that is what was causing his pain. The moment they said "we are requesting oncology to come see him", I knew something was really wrong and cried instantly.

Joshua is just 18 years old. Instead of college, or trade school, he is fighting for his life while I work hard on our new assemblance of life. His treatment will last up to 2 to 3 years of vigorous treatments, we’ve been told this will a difficult journey for us both. He is battling not only cancer but also severe depression and anxiety. Everything he dreamed of is on hold—because survival is now his only goal.

And as his mom, I live with the fear that he might fall into the 25% of kids his age who don’t survive this diagnosis. I pray every day that Joshua will be one of the lucky ones.

This fight comes with overwhelming costs—medical bills, co-pays and deductibles to reach before coverages, travel to and from the hospital, food, medications, home sanitization to keep him safe since he has no immune system while undergoing treatment, and even pet care while we’re away. We want to focus on Joshua’s recovery, not on how we’ll afford the next meal or the next tank of gas, which was already a concern.

His body is fluctuating so much between fluids, chemo, immunotherapy, platlets, additional blood to curb the effect and loss of blood counts in a safe range, the medication has blown his face up, he has lost all his hair, and grown back only to lose it again - all in just 8 months.

In 2026 we have had over 100 appointments, and 11 ER visits and 14 admissions to the hospital so far.
