Hello everyone, I am hoping for help funding my out of country heart procedure due in March of this year in Japan. Here is a little bit about me.
My name is Exaudia Breau, I am a 64 and reside in Nova Scotia Canada.
I suffer from severe Atrial Fibrillation.
Atrial Fibrillation is a life threatening disease that progresses with time as you age. It will not get better. Afib also increase your risk of strokes and heart attacks significantly.
When you are in afib, your heart beats erratically and your heart rhythm goes fast and slow continuously. My episodes can last anywhere from 20 to 36 hours and if I don’t return to a normal heart rhythm after that long, I have to go to emergency for a cardio version. A cardio version is when they zap your heart like when you have a heart attack and they give you the paddles and zap you to bring you back . Only with afib they zap you and stop your heart for a minute and then start your heart again hoping for a normal rhythm. I was cardio verted 4 times and was lucky it worked and got back into normal rhythm. But after a while it can stop working. The medication tens to stop working after a while as well, and you can stay in permanent afib.
when in afib, I can feel every beat. It feels like my heart is doing flips in my chest and I feel short of breath. I can’t sleep, I feel anxiety and fear the whole time I am in afib.
Because your heart is not pumping blood as it should while in afib, the blood tend to pool in The left atrial appendage and that is where the blood clots form and causes strokes.
Dr Ohtsuka is the only surgeon that removes the left atrial appendage and by removing your left appendage, reduces your risk of strokes 97%. He also burns the areas on the outside of your heart where the electrical pulses causing afib originate.
I am now on heart meds and blood thinners which brings risks of internal bleeding in the brain and other parts of your body. I have to be extras careful to not hit my head, or have a fall, or if I was ever in an accident, I could very easily bleed to death. Anything like that would cause internal bleeding.
The medecine I have to take also makes me feel out of breath, and always tired. I feel awful all the time. My quality of life is very much impacted by Afib and the meds. I no longer have quality of life.
Having this procedure will cut down my risk of stroke by 97%, and I will be off blood thinners and beta blockers. It will save my life. I will no longer have to worry about my heart feeling like it wants to jump out of my chest or having a stroke or heart attack.
This procedure will give me my life back.
I am scheduled for surgery at Newheart Watanabe International Hospital in Tokyo, Japan in March of this year. This hospital provides highly specialized treatment centered on cardiovascular surgery and cardiovascular internal medicine. The surgery I am receiving is not available in Canada. The surgery will cost me $25000 plus travel and accommodations. This is not covered by Canadian MSI because it is out of country and I have to pay it myself.
I am not expecting to raise the full amount of my procedure, but every small donations will help. I will have to find another way to come up with the remaining amount of money to go. But I am determined to go either way. I will find a way to get my procedure. I will update you all after my surgery on March 21.
I am just requesting help to help me pay for travel costs to Tokyo Japan and to pay for some of my surgery.
This is something I wish I didn’t have to do. I am very independent and despise asking for help. I am usually the one helping others. Many of you know that.
AFib is ruining my quality of life and is causing me much anxiety and depression. When I am in AFib I have to lay down and can’t do anything.
After doing months of research, my two options at a better quality of life are an ablation or a minimaze.
After a few appointments with an Electrophysiologist, which explained to me that an ablation is about 70% effective and I would still have to be on heart meds as well as blood thinners for the rest of my life and more than likely would need several Ablations. It is a nightmare. The possible complications are terrifying.
The Minimaze is more advanced and is 92 % effective and would allow me to be free of blood thinners and heart meds for the rest of my life. I want that.
Only two doctors in the world do the mini maze, one in Houston with Dr Randall Wolf, which would cost me 150,000 dollars and one in Tokyo by Dr Ohtsuka which was trained by Dr Wolf and will cost me 30,000 with travel.
I decided to go to Tokyo so that I can get the best of care, and can’t afford 150,000 dollars to go to Houston. The procedure is not covered by my insurance or medicare because it is out of the country.
I wish I didn’t have to do this at all. I am terrified. But this is the best option for me to fix my issue once and for all. Nothing in life is 100% guaranteed, but 92% are great odds and I cant continue to live like this. I have to try. I have to do something! I want to enjoy my grand children and see them grow up. This is affecting my time spent with them.
I am asking you all if you can, to help me make this possible and have this procedure done in Tokyo.
Please , If you can donate, do so, even if it isn’t much. I know times are hard so even a small amount would be greatly appreciated. Help me reach my goal for a better life.
If you are unable to donate, please keep sharing as much as possible, and please pray for me. I believe that prayers are very powerful.
With having to take time off of work because of this condition and the anxieties and depression, I am struggling to find the funds for this procedure. I desperately need your help.
I am Immensely grateful to all that can donate, share and pray for me.
This will give me back my quality of life.
Asking for help is one of the hardest things I ever had to do. But there comes a time in our lives where we have to set our pride aside and do things we wouldn’t normally do.
If you would like to know anything about the procedure, and why I made this decision, you can DM me at anytime or look up the wolf mini maze by doctor Randall wolf in Houston . He has some videos of the whole procedure and a lot of info on YouTube. He also explains the difference and advantages between a mini maze and the ablation.
I sincerely thank you all. Thank you for helping me make my dream of being well again come true. May god bless you for your generosity during this hard time in my life.❤️
