In May of this year, the Shaw family received life changing news about their 14 year old daughter, Lexi.  Lexi was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma of the kidney.  This is an incredibly rare form of cancer which required Lexi to under surgery to remove her left kidney this week. She is presently undergoing fertility treatments while she recovers from surgery, so that she may be able to have children of her own someday .  She is scheduled to undergo 8-10 months of intense chemotherapy, missing her sophomore year of high school.  Among the many current and future sacrifices John and Debbie will make, they have decided that Debbie will have to take a leave of absence from her job to care for Lexi during this difficult time.
