Hi my name is Cheri and I am fundraising for my son Marshall. We live in Summerford Newfoundland which is located in the central part of the province. In March of this year Marshall was having pain in his right leg. So he went to the doctor and they said it's probably just a shin splint, go home and put ice on it. In June he completed his trade as a Heavy Equipment Technician and moved to the west coast of Newfoundland to start his new job and the next chapter of his life. The pain started to get worse. He went to the doctor again and after several tests it was confirmed he has a tumour on the bone in his leg the size of a softball. The orthapedic oncologist took him off work for 6 months so Marshall had to move back home. He applied for EI benfits but was denied because he didn't have 600 hours for sickness benefits and he couldn't get regular benefits because he is not available for work, which is a requirement in order to receive them. Therefore he has no income. My husband and I are struggling financially as it is but we are helping him the best way we can. We are paying his bills (car insurance, phone bill, student loans, and any medications he needs)as well as our own. Also because he is not allowed to put any weight on his leg ( the doctor is afraid of the bone breaking if he do) he has to purchase a walker and crutches. And after the surgery he has to wear a special boot and all of this is quite costly. We have taken two trips to St Johns which is 5 1/2 hours away for Marshall to have biopsies done. He isn't allowed to drive so his dad has to drive him everywhere..So Tuesday December 16th we have to be in St Johns for the third time for Marshall's surgery. This consists of having the tumour removed and the bone in his leg reconstructed. This comes with the cost of gas, accommodations and meals. We don't even know how long we will have to be in St Johns for. Depending on how well the surgery goes,we may even be there for Christmas and away from our 3 daughters that we have to leave at home with a caretaker. So everyone my son is asking for your help. With Christmas around the corner I know you all are being financially burdened yourselves but please if you can help my son at all do. Marshall is a good kid(well not a kid as such he's 24) he don't and never has drank, smoke or done drugs. He goes to church whenever he can. He don't deserve this to happen to him. I want to help relieve the stress of all of this financially so he can focus on getting healthy again. From our family to yours we wish you all a Merry Christmas and please help me help my son!
