Help Jeniene Matthews Secure Housing and Care

Donation protected
Jeniene Matthews is a beloved and integral part of the St. Mark's School community since her tenure in 2010. Whether it is in the classroom teaching English, advising students, dorm parenting, coaching, or beyond, Mrs. Matthews has touched the lives of countless students and families.

In 2019, Jeniene Matthews was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and has been undergoing extensive treatment ever since. However, after her termination at St. Mark’s School by Ivory Hills, continuing necessary treatment has become more challenging. During an already challenging time, the school is also forcing the Matthews family to move out of their home by the end of June, despite her contract (in agreement with former Head of school John Warren) stating she could stay for an additional 3 years after her tenure or contract ended.

During this hard time, we are seeking support from the St. Mark’s community and beyond to help Jeniene Matthews live out the rest of her life in comfort and security. This is an urgent request for immediate relief that she may continue undergoing her cancer treatment without further disruptions, and secure stable housing. Our goal is to raise $50,000 for Mrs. Matthews and her family, so as to assuage the injury inflicted upon them by Ivory Hills and board members for deliberately choosing not to do anything to support Mrs. Matthews in her situation, nor honoring their contract with her. The money raised will go directly to the Matthews family in aiding housing costs, and continuing cancer treatment for Jeniene. With your support, we can stand with a truly remarkable and loving educator, friend, and person who deserves more than how she has been treated.

St. Mark’s is built on the values of community, inclusion, and support. Though the current St. Mark’s administration is not supporting Mrs. Matthews the way she deserves and was promised to be, we have an opportunity to stand with her and recognize these values within ourselves. We hope that the wider St. Mark’s community will support Jeniene Matthews, a cornerstone of our school, an amazing educator who has dedicated her life to her students, a light to us all. Thank you for considering contributing to Mrs. Matthews in any way you can. Age Quod Agis.
