Hey guys... I apologize if this is a long winded post to read.
As some of you know my dad has been sick for quite some time. He has been off work since late June, early July 2020. If anyone knows my dad you will know he is a work-aholic and loves his job, and does not like to sit around.
After my dad was air-ambulanced out of his work community in Rankin Inlet he under went many tests and tons of doctor appointments in Winnipeg as well as Flin Flon. We later found out he did indeed have bladder cancer. The real kicker was that it was not only one type of cancer, but two. The one type is very rare, but very invasive and spreads fast. The doctor who specializes in this said that the cancer is so rare he maybe only sees it once every 10 years. Therefore there is not a ton of information about it. After the devastating news and more tests and appointments the doctor decided that chemo and bladder removal surgery is our best bet. He was to receive 2 different types of chemo. My dad began his chemo in January 2021. There were a lot of bumps in the road. After a few rounds of the chemo and my dad becoming very ill the doctors decided it was best to stop chemo. My dads kidneys were not taking the chemo well what so ever, so the best option was to try and save his kidneys and stop chemo before reaching the recommended treatment. After weeks of allowing his body to heal and recover from the chemo we got the call with the date for surgery.
On Friday May 7th my dad underwent a very high risk, long and gruelling surgery to remove his bladder, prostate and lymph nodes. He now will have to recover and stay in the hospital for up to 10 days. When he comes home it will still be a long road to recovery.
My dad is not the type of person to ask anyone for help. But is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He has a huge heart and loves his family, neighbours and community.
I do not like having to ask for help, but with my dad being off work for close to a year now the bills have piled up. He will still have quite some time before he can return to work or return to a somewhat normal lifestyle again after this surgery.
My dad has been so strong through all of this. I would like to do this to help him relax a bit and be able to fully recover and not have to worry about the financial aspect of things. Having to be off work for so long, and all the numerous trips have really strained him financially. Any help would be so gratefully appreciated.
