Last night around 10pm, we let our two dogs out to go the bathroom for around five minutes & when our sweet girl Pepper came back inside we noticed she was limping. After looking her over we realized that she had a small hole in her shoulder, not wanting to jump to conclusions, Jake went outside to investigate the yard to check for wild animals ect, while I cleaned her up. We checked with online vets to ensure she would be okay through the night, and got her settled with plans to see the vet first thing this morning. She laid in her kennel for the rest of the night with the door open, and this morning she was unable to get up at all.
We loaded her up and rushed her to the vet, and as we suspected.. the vet advised that it looks as though someone shot her.
She is currently under the vets care, and last we heard was being sedated for X-rays ect to determine if this was in-fact the cause & make sure that nothing internal has been damaged. She has been inside now for over two hours.
We normally would never ask anyone for help, but we are unfortunately just starting to get back on our feet after a few months of financial struggles, and we simply do not have the funds to handle a situation like this. At this point we don’t have any updates on her condition and the current bill is substantial….
We are unfortunately pretty certain as to who did this to our girl, as we have already had some much smaller issues with them.. We have contacted the police department/ animal control within our county & they are investigating the situation but without proof, I’m not sure how much we can even hold anyone accountable. We are doing everything we can to keep our dogs safe moving forward, as of this evening we will have cameras up in our yard, thanks to a friend who was kind enough to give them to us, and we are working on saving for a fence for our full yard so that there is never even the potential for them to wander. Our dogs are usually never allowed outside alone unless locked in their kennel and we feel absolutely horrible that we let them go out last night for a few minutes alone.
Pepper is the best girl, and she didn’t deserve this. She is a huge part of our family, and is truly our son’s best friend. I was pretty mad when Jake brought her home from work 8 months ago, but she’s made it impossible not to love her. We are heartbroken that anyone could ever be so cruel to hurt her. Especially seeing directly how special she is to our children. She is still just a baby, & we love her so so much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, we appreciate it more than I can explain. If you are unable to donate, please please just share.
