Ever heard the phrase, “It’s not brain surgery?” Most people want to steer clear of tasks as hard as tricky medical procedures, but I want to become a neurosurgeon or biomedical engineer. Help me move towards my dream by supporting my attendance at Shad Canada this summer!
What is Shad? Shad is a prestigious annual Canadian summer science and engineering program hosted at Universities across Canada. It focuses on advanced science and entrepreneurship and provides access to world-leading mentors. The month-long program is offered at 19 participating universities across Canada and usually costs $6100. I was lucky enough to receive a $1000 scholarship for this program but still must save the remaining program costs of $5100 + travel costs.
Why help? You will be investing in a future generation! If you need medical help in about 20 years, it might be me who is providing it. Attending this program will give me a taste of university and help me work toward getting into the Biomedical Engineering program I would like to participate in next year at the University of Victoria. From there, I hope to apply to medical school successfully.
I have a part-time job at London Drugs and work as many hours as possible, but I am also a competitive dancer with Triple Heat Dance studio and spend nine hours a week practicing. To support my dancing, I also go to the gym four days a week before school and am in the Explore Outdoor Education program, which has extra school commitments. Even with such a committed schedule, I have managed to keep my grades up and currently have a 96% average grade.
When I applied for Shad Canada, I doubted that I would be accepted as it is a highly competitive program with applicants from across the country. I am very honored to have been accepted and am ready and able for the challenge. I am looking forward to meeting other like-minded youth dedicated to making the most of life offers and making a better future. Any help you can give will be much appreciated!
Thanks for your support!
