Many of my earliest memories of Ashley involve her making gifts of art (often made from “craft supplies” fished surreptitiously from the waste basket) to welcome every guest who walked through the door of our family home. As she grew, she was always first in line to help friends and strangers in times of practical or financial need. Now she needs some help from the rest of us.

Ashley was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. While her prognosis is good and her insurance will cover everything deemed “medically necessary” now that her deductible is met, she is still facing financial hardship as the result of expenses not covered by insurance. These include the cost of care prior to meeting her deductible, fertility preservation measures that will help preserve her ability to have biological children in the future if she chooses to (her treatments involve a high risk of fertility loss), transportation costs, and the cost of time off work for medical care, among others. Ashley has applied for available grants to cover some of the expenses, and we will update our goals if those applications are successful.
