This is a story about Derek, Emily, and Florence Olson.
A growing family of 3. 2 dogs; Luna and Chica. Derek and Emily met in 2015 and married in 2017. They had Flora in July of 2017. She is now 18 months old. For a living, Derek builds pole barns, blows glass, and runs their transitionally organic vegetable farm. Emily is a full-time student (junior) at Gustavus Adolphus College in the Environmental Studies program. She also is the owner/manager of their small business, Quantum Glass and works on their Farm full time in the summer. Emily and Derek built their businesses solely with income from their full time jobs over the years. The whole Family travels around Minnesota to vend the crafts that Derek creates for Quantum Glass at events like Blueberry Arts Festival in Ely and the Maker Fair in St. Peter. They had their first year at New Ulm Farmer's market in 2018. On Saturday, February 3rd at approximately 8:30 PM- they arrived home with groceries to find their home engulfed in flames. Their home burnt entirely to the ground. There is nothing salvageable. Luckily, their two dogs survived. Their two cats were lost in the fire or potentially escaped and are missing. Derek's vehicle was sitting a couple feet from the home and was badly damaged as well. This Family is now starting over from scratch with literally all that they had in Emily's car. The home was rented and unfortunately they did not have renter's insurance. Anything helps
