Medical & Recovery Expense Fund for Joey Mathias!
On August 1, 2021, Joey Mathias was doing what he loves most - skydiving. A son, a brother, a boyfriend, and a best friend to many - Joey’s friends and family could use a massive amount of support right now. Prayers, love, and light are greatly appreciated.
Under unfortunate and unknown circumstances, Joey suffered an abrupt stroke when he safely landed from a parachute jump. If you know Joey you know that he’s always in the sky or in the ocean. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent emergency brain surgery, as the stroke Joey suffered caused massive amounts of bleeding in the brain. The surgery was successful and the doctor was able to successfully drain the blood out and fix the underlying problem that caused the stroke.
Due to the nature and severity of his intense injuries, in order to give his brain ample time to heal he is under heavy sedation in a very low stimulated environment, and he should be awakened soon. However the recovery from this trauma is a very long and painful process. We are still in a waiting situation and all prayers are extremely appreciated as this time as it is critical for Joey’s healing process. Unfortunately, we cannot know more information about his condition until he awakes. Then, we will be able to know whether his injuries have done any damage to his brain, speech, motor skills, etc.
If you have seen or had the awesome pleasure to throw back a corona or two with Joey, you know that this guy always has a smile on his face and is always there to cheer you up when you need it most. The amount of love and support the local community has shown is overwhelming and extremely appreciated by his family and friends. We cannot wait until Joey awakens and sees the outpouring of prayers, support, help, love and get well wishes from countless loving friends and even strangers.
As we all know medical costs are not inexpensive by any means. Suffering this type of injury, going through an intense life saving surgery, staying in the ICU, ambulance rides, and possible rehab add up incredibly fast and provide Joey and his family with a very hefty invoice. That is why we are raising money to help Joey and his family with medical expenses - including the medical costs associated with Joey’s surgery and continued medical care.
Just a few months ago Joey had a serious skydiving accident where he suffered a broken femur, a concussion, and other injuries. The concussion and impact to his head were the most serious, which unfortunately have played long term effects on his brain that he still suffers from.
No matter what obstacles he has faced, Joey has fought long and hard to recover fully and get back to doing what he loves most: surfing, flying, riding, climbing, and other activities with his friends and community. Joey has always maintained a smile and lived his life according to one motto: “You gotta live life to the fullest potential everyday.” Joey is not the type of person to just lay down and sit still and wait for things to heal. We know his mindset here will be no different.
His family cannot thank everyone enough for your support, love, and outreach. Please help Joey and his family in any possible way that you can. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. If you cannot give, please pray for Joey unceasingly. We will continue to give updates as we hear more about Joey’s status and condition over the next coming hours and days.
Joe - your family, friends, and community supports and cares for you immensely. Get better soon brotha! You are in all of our prayers!
