Betty’s Battle: Cancer Care Fund for Sweet Senior Golden Retriever

Our Story:

Many have asked how they can help... please share, or any donation towards her medical care is extremely generous and deeply appreciated. All funds will go directly to her care.

Suggested care if money was no object CT, liver lobectomy surgery and chemo. Estimated at $19k currently. Insurance denied.

Meet Betty! Everyone thinks their dog is special, and they are not wrong. Sweet Betty is a very special girl, loved by all who stumble upon this gentle soul. A woof girl (it took her a while to find her voice, but she has the sweetest woof) loves to start her day dancing and walking the neighborhood for her morning treats.

We came into each other’s lives in January. She was abandoned in Mexico (likely due to poor health and no longer used for puppies). She came to me covered in feces, underweight, with stage I kidney disease, UTI , ear infection and a large perineal mass.

She was helping heal my heart after my sweet senior BOB passed in the Spring. The initial idea was that she’d help heal my hurting heart and I’d help find her a forever home. Well, in April, after nursing her through surgery she found her fur-ever home with me! I don’t know what her life was like before, but I want the rest of her life to be the BEST!

After seeing multiple vets prior to adoption at her FIRST vet visit to establish primary care, a cancerous mammary mass was found within minutes of arrival. The insurance application was then denied due to preexisting conditions. I did not take her to the vet because she appeared unwell.

She has had three surgeries this year. Perineal mass removal (it was a lipoma), spay (it was noted she was spayed at adoption-she was not) and liver lobectomy. She is a fighter!

Betty has a Grade 2 Mammary Adenocarcinoma that has spread to her lymph nodes. (Chest x-ray and ultrasound has shown it has spread no further)

Then… Ultrasound in preparation for chemo after being diagnosed with Grade 2 Mammary Adenocarcinoma found a 5cm mass on the liver. This was removed on 10/4 and was a Hepatocellular adenoma (benign tumor)

Stage I Kidney with recurrent UTI.

Estimated age between 8-10 years.

She snoozes most of the day but otherwise a sweet and happy girl who walks 1.5/2 miles daily, loves her food, rolls around in the grass and loves to snuggle (she has no sense of personal space!).

We have care credit and are handling this the best we can. Many have asked how they can help. Any donation or share is appreciated. I am a single Dog Mama still recovering from furlough from my hospitality career during pandemic (with an amazing family and support network) now back to work full swing, but this is still a large unexpected financial expense.

I knew adopting an adult dog would mean we’d have less time together but I feel like Betty and I are just getting started. I want to show her the absolute best life possible! Our time together has been brief but I love her so very very much!

Any donation towards her medical care is extremely generous and deeply appreciated. All funds will go direct to her care.

Betty and I thank you for reading and sharing.

XOXO,
Ashley and Betty
