Rebuilding After Tragedy

Donation protected
In a devastating turn of events, their home caught on fire while out of town, destroying everything. Thankfully, Billy, Lucas, and their kids were unharmed but it will be a long and trying road to help rebuild and attempt to replace what was lost. Any and all help is very much appreciated.

UPDATE: Their dog was found hiding under their coffee table once the fire was extinguished and is currently in recovery at the emergency vet on high flow oxygen. Also we’ve got sizes for their 2 boys. Their oldest wears XL shirts and size 14 pants with size 4 shoes. Their youngest wears medium shirts and size 8-10 pants with size 1.5 shoes. I will continue to update as we know more but thank you so much for the support and generosity through this tragic time ❤️.

48 HR Update:
They got calls at 5am saying their dog was struggling and they almost put him back on high flow and had vomited and they think he aspirated. He’s on antibiotics now and they’re going to repeat the chest X-ray. They’ve started the process with insurance and sorting through what was left to salvage what was sentimental and try to wash out the smoke smell and stains from what was left. We’re working on gathering clothing and personal items for them and their boys in addition to gift cards for food and clothing stores once they’re able to put down temporary roots. Thank you again for all who have helped so far, everyone that has reached out, and all that continue to do so. It is very much appreciated more than it could ever be expressed

Attached is a link to the walk-through of what was once their home:

And this is Slate, the sweet pup still fighting for his life after hiding under the coffee table throughout the entirety of the house fire and efforts to put it out:
As of Friday afternoon (May 24), he is still in the ICU at BluePearl veterinary clinic in Tampa. Each day he’s there is an additional $4-5k.

May 25 update: Slate is out of the oxygen chamber and on a nasal cannula. They did have to put in a nasogastric tube to try to start feeding him and he’s been sedated quite a bit for al of his procedures, but this is a considerable step forward for him. In the chamber he required 50+% concentration of oxygen to breathe and he’s down to about 28-32% and hasn’t shown any signs of distress on this lower amount. He’s still on all his neb treatments, anti-nausea meds, and now an appetite stimulant.

May 27 Update: “Slate is finally off oxygen as of today! He’s still not eating on his own so the vet thinks that some of his lethargy may be from the sedatives so everything except pain medication is being backed off of. If he doesn’t begin to perk up by Tuesday they’ll have him seen by their neurologist just to make sure we’re not missing anything but this amazing progress.”

6/2 Update: After some touch and go moments with his oxygen levels, Slate is finally back with his family ❤️ Billy and Lucas wanted to express gratitude for the outpouring of love and support through this horrendous event, thank you to everyone who has shared, donated, or reached out! You are seen and so appreciated
