Mugsy is our 4 year old Boxer and is our 8 year old son Aaron's best friend, Mugsy is also the best buddy of our 1 1/2 year old terrier mix Chloe.
Mugsy, Aaron and Chloe play together all the time. Mugsy's "walking buddy" is our 14 year old son Isaac. We just found out that Mugsy has a potentially fatal condition common in Boxers, called a Mast cell tumor.
We took Mugsy in for vaccinations and a check up. While at the vet I asked her to look at a lump on Mugsy's ear. She took a look and was concerned. She took a biopsy and determined that the lump is a cancerous Mast Cell tumor. In order to determine how aggressive the tumor is, and in order to determine her prognosis, the vet has to remove a good part of Mugy's ear and send the tumor to pathology. Once this is done Mugsy also must receive an ultrasound and X-rays to see if she has any more tumors in other parts of her body.
The surgery will cost $1,500 and the additional tests are likely to be another $1,500. We simply don't have the money to get Mugsy the treatment she needs to determine if she can survive.
Our options are essentially 2:
1) Ignore it and hope for the best and put her down if she becomes sick enough.
2) Get the surgery and tests to determine the extent of the cancer, hoping it hasn't spread and that she will be fine if they remove the tumor.
Mugsy is an otherwise active and fun dog, she loves everyone she meets and adores her family. She deserves a chance to live!

This request is hard for us as a family, we usually just take care of ourselves but this unexpected expense is too much to bear at this time. Please help us give Mugsy a chance at life.
