Dear Relatives,

We are preparing for the 2nd Annual Wikoskalaka Yuwita Pi (Gathering of Young Women) Camp to be held on August 11 through the 15th, 2015 in Porcupine, SD and Bear Butte near Sturgis, SD.

During the transition from being a girl to becoming a young woman, sometimes this can be a challenging time for young girls and their families. During this camp we offer an opportunity for our young female relatives to gain some Lakota traditional teachings related to becoming a young woman.This camp will serve up to 20 girls, ages 11-17.

There will be teachings, activities and healing opportunities throughout the days and will end with a ceremony called Isna Ti Awicalowan Pi (They sing for her that lives alone – a reference to the time of isolation during a girl/woman’s monthly purification time) 

As the future women leaders of families and of our great Lakota Nation, we humbly invite you to join us to help make this camp a success!

We are looking for specific needs to ensure that our camp goes smoothly:

$200.00 for Firewood for the Sweatlodge
$300.00 for gas to transport the youth and mentors to and from Bear Butte and Porcupine, SD.
$300 for materials to make the Wokpan (Spiritual Toolkit) This includes a hide, sinew, shells, lighters, cedar and sage.
$500 to pay for material so the young women make their dresses for the Inipi (Sweatlodge) and Womanhood Ceremony.
$400 to buy Giveaway Items after the Womanhood Ceremony
$300 to pay for the use of the Lodge at Bear Butte
