Should you ever talk to Sheila on the phone you would never know the hand she has been dealt. There is always a smile in her voice and you can sense the twinkle in her eye. That is the type of person she is, always looking on the bright side and making do with what she has. But truth be told, for years now life has not been easy on Sheila. Her husband of 16 years, Lonnie, was very ill and was barely able to get around, let alone do the upkeep of their home, car, etc. that every spouse wants to get done. Sheila, at the same time was suffering with multiple disabilities and was house bound herself. It seems like their life revolved around their stays in the hospital and the never ending trips to the drug store. Their bright spot, their daughter Maggie also struggled with all the issues of her family. Just when it couldn’t get any worse it did. Lonnie passed away from the many illnesses that had kept him down.
Now a new widow and still house bound, Sheila still has that smile in her voice and twinkle in her eye, but she needs help. The years of inability to do the upkeep on their home has taken a toll and now there are major issues that must be taken care of right away. A local church is spearheading the work needed, but there is a cost. The goal, to get their home into the condition it needs to be in, which would allow them to take care of themselves with dignity. Just some of the things that will have to be done, includes new sub flooring and flooring in the kitchen and bathroom, bathroom fixtures tub/shower, etc. that will accommodate their special needs.
Please take a moment and pray for Sheila and Maggie and if you can, please share financially whatever you can, even if just a little, to help this mother and daughter team, anything you do will be so appreciated.
The Lord . . . supports the fatherless and the widow.
Psalm 146:9
“When you have finished paying all the tithe of your increase . . . then you shall give it to the . . . orphan and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.
Deuteronomy 26:12
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
James 1:27
