Raising money in memory of my Grandad
Hello all my name is Emma Kinnear (Mulhall)
My family suffered a loss like no other this year when my grandad lost a battle with mental health.
My grandad was my best friend my rock my role model and so much more. He was a character like no other. Grandad openly spoke about his life from past to present and thought me so much. He was proud of his family and proud of me in everything I’ve done, so I decided to join my family members on an annual trip to Mayo on the 9th of November where they take part in the sea to summit event in Westport, which involves a 4km run 8km cycle and big climb/run up and down Croagh Patrick back on the bike for 11km and another 4km to the finish line. Some of my cousins have been taking part in this event for 10 years for their loved ones. Thankfully turning 18 this year means I get to participate and I know my grandad will be with me all the way in this race. My mum compares this race to torture so I know he will be with me all the way keeping us going. I wanted to do something as part of my process in memory of grandad and particular to raise money so I chose Pieta as they help so many families with the range of supports they offer. I know this charity is close to many people in particular many families in my community so I know I’m helping people all around me and I think grandad would be proud of that.
Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of Pieta and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about Pieta: We’re Pieta, the charity that prevents suicide and self-harm. That means being there for you if you are self-harming, struggling with suicidal thoughts, or have lost someone to suicide. Every year nearly 500 people in Ireland take their own lives, that’s one life lost every week. It doesn’t have to be this way. Pieta exists to change this by offering life-saving services, provoking national conversation, and bringing people together through Darkness Into Light.
