Mad Hanna has lovingly served Portland and the Cully neighborhood for seven years. We have no choice but to close for the duration of the Oregon bar and restaurant ban and we are worried for our staff. We employ artists and musicians, cancer survivors, students, and single mothers. Mad Hanna has been a home and caring environment for each of them to make money while they pursue their dreams.
Oregon has officially closed bars and restaurants for 4 weeks, but it's distinctly possible that they could be closed for 8. We have 10 employees who will be applying for unemployment, but that's not a guarantee that all of their bills will get paid. We estimate that 10 bartenders report around $15,000 in tips over 2 months, so that is the goal we have set here. Anything you can give will be split appropriately amongst our staff.
We’ve kept and loved this community gathering place for seven years. This is where we work and relax, it’s where we make new friends and mourn friends who have passed. Mad Hanna is the most wonderful thing we’ve ever done and we are so grateful. There is nothing more important to us than our community. The health and safety of you and our staff is integral to that. You’re all our starlets! We love and appreciate you ridiculously. If anything happened to you or someone you love because of a high-five you got from one of us, we’d never forgive ourselves.
After this brief closure we’ll be throwing the biggest party anyone’s seen this side of Sandy. Until then please consider generously donating to this GoFundMe. We promise to stay informed, and as soon as it’s safe to re-open we will. You best believe that once we get the green light this party is back on. Everything is going to be ok because is has to be.
