Help us find a home
Donation protected
Dear Friends - we’re desperately reaching out for help. Our lease is up on January 10. For 97 days, we went without heat, hot water, or safe plumbing. Our landlord spent the majority of his time outside the country and ignored our pleas for basic maintenance.
And so, we quietly took legal action, and after a long legal battle that we’ve finally come to the end of, our lease is not being renewed. We haven’t the ability to continue paying court and legal costs. In short, we’re out of options.
So a new home is what we set out to find.
But the pandemic changed EVERYTHING.
and we now find ourselves on the precipice of homelessness. Despite having done everything right.
In this market, we have run out of places to try to rent. We’ve looked at 100s of places, put in application after application, paid hundreds upon hundreds in application fees. To our dismay, we lost out to people who can afford to put down 3, 4, 5 months rent, people who can afford to buy a house, but opt to rent. As of 1/10/23, extended stay hotels are our only option to buy time to find a rental. We’re trying to raise funds to keep ourselves afloat until we can find a suitable home, and maybe have that same couple months extra upfront that it takes to actually get an apartment in this extremely competitive market.
Ian’s job — a good job for 25 years — like everyone, allows us to live paycheck to paycheck. We don’t have significant savings; not the kind is seems — fair or not — to take to put up extra months rent to secure a lease.
Ian spends all his free time volunteering, whether it’s the Fire Department, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, or honoring fallen heroes with the Statewide Honor Guard; and raising money for charities like the Movember Foundation for men’s health. It’s not our way to ask help for ourselves, but we’re out of other options.
We truly appreciate any help you can give ♥️
