My son Guillermo Gota Sanoja is just 23 years old and on November of 2018, a week before Thanksgiving Day, we received news that he had tongue cancer. A few days later in the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Dade, he went through a glossectomy (COMPLETE REMOVAL OF HIS TONGUE), and in order to replace his tongue, they utilized part of his left thigh muscle in order to make him a new one. He also received 30 radiation sessions in his neck. Almost a year later of battling, in which Guillermo beats the side effects of the radiation, he learns how to eat and speak with his “new tongue”. Just when we thought we had beat the fight against his cancer, the Monday October 28th 2019, we received more news in which his cancer had came back. Guillermo has metastasis in his left lung and we fear that the disease might travel to his brain. He now requires new radiology tests in order to know the whole extent and progress of the disease. He must undergo radiotherapy in order to attack his two lung tumors and he will be summoned to chemotherapy in order to contain the mutation of the cancerous cells in his body. Throughout the first phase of his sickness, we used all of our savings and every alternative of credit available, but in order to fight this second battle, we need help. The only dependable income in our household is my husband’s salary, and I help as a Lyft and Uber driver, but it’s not enough. Guille is a noble kid with a good heart, with dreams and a lot of energy to keep living. I ask for your help in order to give Guille a chance of living.
Mi hijo Guillermo Gota Sanoja solo tiene 23 años y en Noviembre de 2018, una semana antes del Día de Acción de Gracias, recibimos la noticia de que tenía cáncer en la lengua. Pocos días después, en el Hospital Jackson Memorial en Miami Dade, fue sometido a una Glosectomía (EXTIRPACIÓN TOTAL DE LA LENGUA) y para reemplazar su lengua, hicieron un injerto con parte del músculo de la pierna izquierda. También recibió 30 sesiones de radiación en su cuello. Luego de casi un año de lucha, en el cual Guille supera los efectos secundarios de la radiación, aprende a comer y a hablar con su ¨nueva lengua¨, y cuando ya creíamos que le habíamos ganado la guerra al cáncer, el pasado lunes 28 de Octubre 2019, recibimos la noticia de que el cáncer había vuelto. Guille tiene metástasis en el pulmón izquierdo y tememos que la enfermedad esté minando su cerebro. Requiere de nuevos exámenes de radiología para saber hasta dónde ha avanzado la enfermedad. Deberá recibir radioterapia para atacar los dos tumores en su pulmón y será sometido a quimioterapia para contener la evolución de las células cancerosas en su cuerpo. Durante la primera etapa de su enfermedad nosotros usamos todos nuestros ahorros y todas las alternativas de créditos disponibles, pero para esta segunda batalla, necesitamos ayuda. El único ingreso fijo de nuestro hogar es el salario de mi esposo, y yo ayudo como chófer de Uber y Lyft, pero no es suficiente. Guille es un chico de noble corazón. Con sueños y con muchas ganas de vivir. Yo les pido que nos ayuden para darle a Guille un chance de vida.
