A pub, actually. Just a little one on the Aran Islands in Ireland. A bowl of Guinness beef stew was set before me, and like some terrible Hugh Grant movie, I was in love. When I returned home, my mission was clear: to recreate this meal that I loved so much. This quickly led to experimenting with more of my favorite meals: shepherds pie, fish and chips, pastys, and the like. I found that not only did I enjoy the food, but I enjoyed the cooking as well. This newly found hobby, creative outlet, and passion pushed me to share these dishes with my friends. The shared enthusiasm for my cooking and support from my friends and family birthed the idea to turn my recreation into a mobile food business.
Breaking into this market in San Diego comes with countless hurdles, but this is where you come in. I need to raise money to get The Surly Scot on its feet. $500 will pay for business licences, food manager and safety permits, registering the business and other various administration tasks. $1500 will pay for start up capital that will allow me to take on small catering gigs and comissary rental. Finally, $1000 will provide for a bank for procuring local and fresh ingredients that will allow me to serve satisfying and environmentally and socially responsible meals.
Just to show that The Surly Scot appreciates your help, donors will recieve rewards based on donation levels. Just in case free stew and swag isn't enough, if we reach $3000 by October 1st, top doners will recieve a privately catered dinner provided by yours truly.
So enough talk from me. If you want to know more, email me at [email redacted] and be sure to check us out on Facebook at The Surly Scot for ongoing updates and gratuitous food pictures. Tapadh leibh!
