The goal is fairly simple, the implementation is a bit more complicated, however. What we want to do is create the premier Wheel of Time community website, designed with new readers as well as old readers in mind.
There is a growing community around the Wheel of Time with the upcoming Amazon Prime television series and many of the older Wheel of Time oriented sites that used to bring the community together are no more. We are seeking to change that.
TheGreatBlight.com, which is already in production and should have a soft launch here in the near future, will have the following features:
1. Links to community Wheel of Time content, including YouTube videos, blogs, and Podcasts, as well as up to date Wheel of Time Television Show news
2. A completely updated Wiki, without ads, and with links to video and audio content from content creators that help explain the detailed parts of the series. The new wiki will be updated to the end of the story (the old ones are not completely updated). The wiki will also be formatted so that people will be able to read the wiki and not be spoiled by later books.

3. Updated maps for every location in the series, including locations that we have never had maps of before. These maps will be interactive, meaning you can click on a place and bring up more detailed local maps as well as links to the wiki on that specific location.

4. There will be links and descriptions to all of the many Wheel of Time content creators that support the community. The goal will be for people to have a place to find someone to talk about the series with. There will be featured bios, links to their work, and ways to get involved in the smaller subset communities around Wheel of Time. For instance, a Wheel of Time based podcast will have a bio page, links to their podcast, links to their discord server, and links to how to support them financially. At the end of the day, we want one place people can check to get everything Wheel of Time, including content creators.
5. There will be a detailed Book recap section, with videos and maps made for each chapter throughout the novels. There will be versions of this for people on their first time through the books, just recapping what they just read, and then there will be a more detailed chapter review video and blog that will detail the foreshadowing and meaning of the events of the chapter in the greater context for the story. This is sticking with the goal of making the site something for both old readers as well as new readers.
6. Battle Maps! We are going to have animated battle maps that will show the movements of the armies, what actually happened during the most famous battles of the Wheel of Time. If you want an event by event breakdown of Dumai's Wells or the Last Battle, look no further than these Battle Maps and the accompanying videos!
So those are some of the things we have in the works right now. So the real question I'm sure some of you have is if you chose to help support the project, where would your money be going?
Well, here are the primary things it will be used for:
1. Creation of a scalable logo in vector forms that can be used for not only the website, but other branded materials. This needs to be professionally created for our needs.
2. I will be paying some people to finish the various parts of the website and create some of the content that will go in the site. I have already spent a good deal on some of this and this will help to supplement the future cost.
3. Hosting and domain fees for the site for the foreseeable future. There is a cost associated with maintaining the website.
4. There is still some web design work that is outside the scope of what I am capable of that I will have to hire out. This money will be used to complete those things.
