Imagine as an elite ultrarunner that your country has only one prestigious race and that one race costs more than one year salary to enter. This is ultra running in Morocco.
Most Moroccan runners can not gain visas to visit other countries to race, nor do they have the funds. The one Moroccan race with serious competition, prize money and prestige is the Marathon Des Sables (MdS). MdS costs 3,000 Euros, has no reduced entry fee for Moroccans and is the only way to prove yourself as a serious runner and win potentially life changing prize money and opportunities.
Meet Aziza Raji, the smiling, shy, fast as a Ferrari ultrarunner breaking cultural norms and winning local races like the 250km Trans Atlas Marathon in 2016 and 2018. With two top-10 finishes at MdS she has the potential to win, let's give her the ability to start.
All donations will be used to support Aziza in her lead up and preperation for MdS. Her entry fee is being paid by UltraU , individualized coaching services for endurance runners located in Portland, OR.
Your donations will provide support during training, help with purchasing gear and food and allow for travel to in-country races and training camps leading up to MdS in the spring of 2019.
THE GOOD NEWS: We did it and raised $3,000. Now, to ensure everyone who wants to donate has the opportunity, I have raised the total goal to $3,500. This will cover shoes the whole year long, more testing of nutrition to dial in what to use for MdS and time away in the mountains and desert training.
