Here is more about mom's story, in her own words:

Hey there, wonderful people! I'm Sandy. In January 2023, I went in for my -first- colonoscopy, thinking it's just another routine check-up test. But to my surprise, I woke up to the news that I had a rectal tumor (I named him Arnold. Talk about a pain in the ass!).

I'm a resilient 48-year-old who has spent over 20 years in local government public works. Life was finally settling down after losing my dad to cancer just 8 months before when Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer decided to gatecrash the party. Life really knows how to throw punches when you least expect them.

I had to take a break from my new engineering job in February to begin the fight for my life my against this uninvited guest. But let me tell you, the financial burden is no joke. With no income, mounting medical bills, and expenses piling up, things have gotten pretty tough. I'm incredibly grateful for the support from my family and friends, who have been sending groceries and helping out as best they can.

After completing four months of intense chemo in phase 1, I'm now knee-deep into phase 2: daily chemo and radiation. It's a challenging journey, but I'm determined to keep fighting. However, the financial strain is weighing heavily on me. That's why my family is setting up this GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate some of the financial burden.
