Hello! If you don’t know me, my name is Olivia Kinoshita. I am an Asian American female cinematographer from the Bay Area. I’m currently working on my Senior Thesis Project, which consists of three original music videos, each one exploring a different creative approach: narrative, performance, and experimental.

[ ◉¯] This is the most meaningful project I’ve worked on to date; a true reflection of the skills, growth, and creative voice I’ve built over the past three years. These films will help fully demonstrate my cinematography skills as I pursue freelance work after college. Each music video allows me to explore different relationships between visuals and audio. One is narrative, another is performance-based, and the final is experimental or concept-driven, pushing me to try new visual techniques.

Narrative means following the lyrics of the song and telling a visual story that complements the song. Without having to worry about continuity, I can fully showcase my camera composition and framing. While the song and rights are still in progress, I’ve included a few contenders and visual inspirations to help convey the tone I’m aiming for.

Pitch Deck (Sent to artist and management): Bonny Light Horseman- Lover Take it Easy

Whether it features choreographed dancers or the artist singing directly to the camera, the camera movements and edits will be closely synced with the rhythm and motion of the performance. The song is still being decided, but I've listed a few options for reference.

Through unique camera angles, a mix of multimedia (including 16mm and Super8 film), and unconventional editing, the goal is to create something that pushes standard expectations and boundaries. The song finalized for this project is Pilot by the duo Butcher Doug. The track explores the emotional conflict of letting someone in, even when they’re not good for you, and how, if you can’t let go, you risk losing both yourself and the relationship in the end.
Here is the treatment (sent and approved by artist): Butcher Doug- Pilot

What Your Donation Goes Towards:
Food for the crew on long film days. Production Design (Set Design) for wardrobe, hair and makeup, and set decoration. Paying for song rights, location fees, and submission fees to film festivals. I also hope to use a mix of mediums by purchasing and developing Super 8 film.

It would be amazing if you were willing to donate to my thesis, as it will help bring 3 amazing music videos, full of experimentation and inspiration, to life. These music videos will diversify my portfolio and highlight my versatility as a visual storyteller.

If you can't donate, DON'T WORRY!! Please share this GoFundMe link with a few friends or on your social media! It means a great deal to me that you've read this far. Thank you!
