Help Save Titan – My Gentle Giant

Five and a half years ago, life brought Titan into my world in the most unexpected way. He was supposed to be a temporary foster— a hurricane survivor from South Carolina- just over the holidays—an English Mastiff/German Shepherd mix with the kindest eyes I had ever seen. But when the time came to return him to the shelter, I couldn’t do it. He had already claimed my heart. Titan became my family.

Titan is a gentle giant in every sense. He loves everyone he meets—kids, strangers, he sits and gives everyone his paw to shake. His tail is always wagging, his eyes always full of love. Through some of my hardest moments in life, Titan has been my rock. He’s been there when I felt alone, when I was struggling, when I needed a reason to get up in the morning.

This morning, I took him to the vet for what I thought was just a sore leg. I never imagined I’d hear the words osteosarcoma—bone cancer. The diagnosis shattered me. Without treatment, this aggressive disease will take him from me far too soon. But there is hope. It does not seem to have spread. With surgery to amputate his right front leg, followed by radiation, and a prosthetic, Titan could have years of happy life ahead.

The problem is, the cost for surgery, tests, radiation, recovery, and medication is overwhelming. $1,000-$3000 for amputation. Another $3 000 to $5,000 for radiation. Then getting a prosthetic made. I am a single woman working 70 hours a week just to make ends meet. I can handle a lot on my own, but I can’t do this without help.

Titan is more than “just a dog.” He’s my best friend, my family, my safe place. He survived a HURRICANE! Help him survive this. I don’t want to let him down now, not after everything he’s been through and everything he’s done for me. He deserves a chance to keep living, loving, and bringing joy to everyone he meets. He loves to play fetch, to search for treats either in his snuffle mat or waiting while I hide them and going on a hunt to find them. He is my shadow, my protector, my giant 160 lb baby.
