As many of you know, Wyatt has been faithfully serving with us at Thrive Church and Ascend going on 6 years and he is an unbelievable blessing to everyone who knows him. Recently, Wyatt went out to get in his truck and he unexpectedly saw a person breaking into a car right next door. The thief was caught off guard and immediately jumped in his jeep and raced towards Wyatt’s truck to hit him. Wyatt was driving backwards to avoid getting hit and the thief swerved into the yard of the guys house by the church where Wyatt lives. The thief then swerved back into the street to intentionally hit Wyatt and he rammed Wyatt in his truck by the gas tank, essentially totaling it.
Wyatt was able to get a description of the driver and the car but because of the accident he couldn’t get a license plate number. The good news is, he was able to stop the robbery but his frame was bent pretty bad, leaving his truck totaled. After filing a police report, working with his insurance and our city victim advocacy office, there is nothing more that can be done because the thief got away.
We have never organized a GoFundMe for anything and when we asked Wyatt if we could do this he was initially hesitant (which is how we felt too). After talking and praying about it, Jill and I got a little upset realizing that all Wyatt did was unintentionally stop a robbery in his neighborhood and now his truck is wrecked and the thief got away. Wyatt was born and raised on these streets and now he serves at the church and runs several programs to minister to the kids and families of this community. No one loves this place more than him and because he was simply walking out to his car, this guy pulls a hit and run and leaves Wyatt in this situation.
Again, we’ve never done one of these before but if there’s anything at all you could consider giving, we just want him to know that doing the right thing doesn’t always have to end like this. We are so incredibly blessed by the way Wyatt has served and sacrificed so much for so many.
We’re trying to raise $1,400 but anything you could give towards his car situation would be very helpful and also encouraging for this young man.
