The numbers are unsettling—infectious diseases account for 58% of all deaths among children in India aged 5-14 years. Ayurvive is an organization that aims to change this unfortunate reality.
In 2016 alone, the Indian state of Bihar reported over 6,000 cases of typhoid, 220,000 cases of bacillary dysentery, and 25,000 cases of viral hepatitis. Hundreds of children and adults are dying every year at the hands of these preventable illnesses.
The government of Bihar has turned its back on its people—particularly villagers in its most rural areas. It is consequently up to people like you and me to do what we can to combat these deadly, yet easily treatable diseases which continue to claim so many innocent lives.
All funding we receive will support Ayurvive's goal to both fight and prevent these communicable diseases in rural Bihar. And we plan to accomplish this through three primary objectives:
Starting this October, a team of MD physicians and volunteers will travel to rural villages in Bihar in order to provide medical examination, diagnosis, and treatment to villagers for typhoid, dysentery, and viral hepatitis.
Many of Bihar's rural villagers generally have no access to necessary medical care. We intend to provide it to them because we believe access to basic healthcare is a universal human right.
A crucial, preventative component necessary to better the health and wellness of Bihar’s citizens is health education.
Most of Bihar’s rural citizens have no access to basic education, let alone education regarding health and hygiene. One of our goals is to help curb this problem by providing necessary information that the villagers would not have access to otherwise. Topics that will be taught involve managing bacterial and viral infections, handwashing, bathing, trash disposal, prenatal care, as well as the importance of separating latrine and food areas.
Our final goal is to tie the other two together by providing Bihar’s citizens with the right tools to maintain proper health on their own. This includes but is not limited to items such as soap, sanitizer, and water purifiers to combat preventable infections.
As a result of the health education component of Ayurvive, we hope villagers in rural Bihar will understand the importance of the use of such items in order to maintain better health. Ultimately, our goal is to distribute enough supplies so a large proportion of villagers receive the chance to both learn and apply more responsible health practices.
Together, these 3 key objectives will comprise a major step in the fight against infectious diseases in Bihar. However, we cannot continue the fight without your support. You can help make a difference and save lives by donating to the cause today.
