Hola, mi nombre es Salvador Méndez. He iniciado esta campaña para pedir vuestro apoyo y poder costear los gastos médicos de operación y tratamiento de mi mamá. Su nombre es Mina Vivas, vive en Venezuela y a sus 73 años se enfrenta a un desafío importante: una operación en la cabeza para tratarse la hidrocefalia.

¿Quién es Mina Vivas?

Para quienes no la conocen, mi mamá es una mujer maravillosa. Es una persona inteligente, amorosa, humilde y llena de alegría, siempre buscando nuevos proyectos a los cuales se dedica con pasión. Estudió economía y dedicó muchos años de su vida a la docencia ya que fue profesora en la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Le encantaba enseñar. Siempre inculcó a sus alumnos la importancia de la ética, no solo en su profesión, sino en cada aspecto de sus vidas. Se jubiló hace varios años pero conserva aún la sabiduría de quien supo enseñar y aprender continuamente de la actividad docente.

Es muy querida por ex alumnos y profesores, pues gracias a su inmensa fuerza vital y la confianza que inspira, Mina supo forjar amistades maravillosas en cada lugar. Para nosotros, ella es una persona excepcional, alguien con mucho amor por sus semejantes, una persona empática que ha ayudado a muchas dando siempre todo lo que ha podido sin esperar nada a cambio.

También tiene una capacidad innata para escuchar, comprender los problemas de los demás y buscar soluciones. Su sensibilidad hacia las necesidades de los desamparados es inmensa, pues ha sido defensora de derechos humanos y activista por muchos años. Le encantan los animales y no le gustan los zoológicos.

Además de su faceta profesional y su carisma, Mina tiene una vena artística. Por ejemplo, ha elaborado unas cajas preciosas con mosaico de vidrio, una actividad que le relaja, poniendo alegría y amor en cada pieza para dárselas a la gente que quiere.

¿Qué es la hidrocefalia?

Es una condición que se produce por la acumulación excesiva de líquido cefalorraquídeo en el cerebro, lo que puede causar presión y afectar diversas funciones. En el caso de mi mamá, esta condición le ha provocado dolores persistentes, dificultades para caminar y leves afecciones cognitivas que han mermado su calidad de vida y su energía habitual.

La buena noticia es que puede tratarse a través de la colocación de una válvula en la cabeza. Esta operación es crucial porque permitirá drenar el exceso de líquido, aliviando la presión en su cerebro. Con esta intervención, esperamos que recupere su movilidad, disminuyan sus dolores y mejore su función cognitiva, permitiéndole retomar su vida activa, sus mosaicos, sus paseos y sobre todo, su inmensa alegría.

Porque necesitamos vuestro apoyo

Los gastos médicos de esta operación son considerables y, lamentablemente, la situación actual en Venezuela, donde el sistema de salud enfrenta grandes dificultades, hace que sea aún más desafiante cubrirlos. Como jubilada de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, la situación económica actual de Mina no le permite afrontar estos costos.

Por mi parte, y a pesar de todo mi deseo de apoyarla, no cuento con los recursos económicos para cubrir la totalidad de estos gastos. Hace cinco años emigré de Venezuela y, desde donde estoy, España, la ayudo económicamente, pero una operación de tal envergadura no me es posible costear. Por otra parte, en 2021 lamentablemente, su esposo, mi papá, falleció en 2021 a causa del COVID-19, dejándola sin su compañero de vida y con menos apoyo en su día a día. Actualmente, no me es posible volver al país, pero afortunadamente, Mina cuenta con personas muy queridas que la apoyan en casa, lo que demuestra el amor correspondido que ha sembrado a lo largo de su vida. Adicionalmente, en 2020 tuvo que someterse a una operación de cáncer de mama, la cual pudimos costear gracias a la solidaridad de muchas personas que colaboraron y compartieron la campaña que hicimos aquel año aquí en GoFundMe.

Cada contribución nos acerca más a devolverle a Mina la vitalidad y el bienestar que tanto merece.

Hello, my name is Salvador Mendez. I have initiated this campaign to request your support so that the medical expenses of my mum's operation and treatment can be paid. Her name is Mina Vivas, she lives in Venezuela and at her 73 years she confronts an important defy: an operation in her head to treat Hydrocephalus.

Who is Mina Vivas?

For those who don't know her, my mum is a marvelous woman. She is an intelligent, loving, humble and full of joy person, always looking for new projects to undertake and dedicate with passion. She studied Economy and gave many years of her life to teaching, since she was a professor at the Central University of Venezuela. Teaching was a delight for her. She always instilled in her students the importance of ethics, not only in their profession but in any other aspect of their life. She retired several years ago, but inside her remains the wisdom of who knew how to teach and continuously learn from the teaching activity.

She is very well liked by her ex-students and professors, because thanks to her immense vital strength and the confidence she inspires, Mina knew how to forge marvelous friendships everywhere. For us, she is an exceptional person, somebody with much love for her fellow human beings and empathetic, who has helped many, giving always all she has been able to, without expecting anything in return.

She also has an inborn capacity to listen, to understand problems of others and come up with solutions. Her sensitivity towards the needy is immense, and she has been a Human Rights defender and an activist for many years. She loves animals and doesn't like Zoos.

Besides her professional facet and her charisma, Mina has an artistic vein. For example, she has elaborated beautiful boxes with glass mosaics, an activity that relaxes her, putting joy and love in each piece, to give it to those she loves.

What is Hydrocephalus?

It is a condition that is produced by the accumulation of excessive cephalorachidian liquid in the brain, which can cause pressure and affect several functions. In my mum's case this condition has caused her persistent pains, walking difficulties and mild cognitive deterioration, that have diminished her life quality and vital energy.

The good news is that it can be treated with the placement of a valve in the head. This operation is crucial because it will allow the drainage of the excessive liquid, alleviating the pressure in her brain. With this intervention we hope she can recover her mobility, decrease her pains and improve her cognitive function, allowing her to retake her walks and above all her immense joy.

Why do we need your support?

The medical expenses of this operation are considerable, and unfortunately the actual situation in Venezuela, where the health system confronts great difficulties, makes it even more defiant to cover them. As a retired professor from the Central University of Venezuela, the actual situation of Mina does not allow her to cover these costs.

From my part, despite my desire to help her, I do not have all the resources to help her cover the total costs. Five years ago, I migrated from Venezuela and from where I am, I help her economically, but I can't pay for the total costs of an operation of this magnitude. In addition, in 1921, sadly her husband, my dad, died because of COVID-19, leaving her without her partner and with help in her daily life.

Currently it is not possible for me to return to my country, but fortunately Mina counts with beloved persons that help her in her house, which demonstrates the correspondent love she has planted throughout her life.

Additionally, in 2020 she had to go through a breast cancer operation, which we were able to pay for thanks to the solidarity of many persons, who collaborated and shared the fundraising campaign we carried forward that year in GoFundMe.

Each contribution makes closer the path that will give back to Mina the vitality and the wellness that she so much deserves.
