Víctor Yandel Mejía Paredes nació el 2 de enero de 2012 en Nagua, República Dominicana. Desde que llegó al mundo, Yandel se ha caracterizado por ser un niño amoroso, lleno de ternura y con un corazón enorme. Le encanta pasar tiempo con su familia, compartir con sus amigos y regalar sonrisas que iluminan cualquier lugar donde esté.

Hace aproximadamente dos años, Yandel comenzó a sufrir fuertes dolores de cabeza. Después de varios estudios, en mayo de 2023 su familia recibió la noticia que jamás imaginó: fue diagnosticado con un glioma pontino intrínseco difuso (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma – DIPG), un tumor cerebral poco común, agresivo e incurable que se desarrolla en la protuberancia anular, una parte del tronco encefálico. Este tipo de tumor, que afecta principalmente a niños de entre 5 y 10 años, progresa rápidamente y, lamentablemente, no tiene cura.

Durante dos años, Yandel recibió tratamiento en el Hospital SickKids de Toronto. Sin embargo, este verano, los médicos informaron a su madre que ya no quedaban procedimientos disponibles y que debía llevar a su niño a casa.

Hoy, nuestra meta es que Yandel pueda vivir el tiempo que le queda rodeado de amor, alegría y los cuidados paliativos que necesita. Queremos que disfrute cada día al máximo, sin que las preocupaciones económicas sean un obstáculo para brindarle momentos especiales junto a quienes más lo aman.

Víctor Yandel Mejía Paredes was born on January 2, 2012, in Nagua, Dominican Republic. Since the day he was born, Yandel has been known as a loving child, full of tenderness and with an enormous heart. He loves spending time with his family, being with friends, and sharing smiles that brighten any place he’s in.

About two years ago, Yandel began experiencing severe headaches. After several tests, in May 2023, his family received the news they never imagined: he was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)—a rare, aggressive, and incurable brain tumour that develops in the pons, part of the brainstem. This type of tumour, which mainly affects children between the ages of 5 and 10, progresses rapidly and, sadly, has no cure.

For two years, Yandel received treatment at Sickids Hospital in Toronto. However, this summer, doctors informed his mother that there were no further procedures available and that she should take her boy home.

Today, our goal is for Yandel to spend the time he has left surrounded by love, joy, and the palliative care he needs. We want him to enjoy each day to the fullest, without financial worries being an obstacle to creating special moments with those who love him most.
