Mi nombre es Karina Guzmán , y hoy recurro con mucha humildad al apoyo de familiares, amigos y personas solidarias. Mi hermano Victor Hugo Guzmán, de 64 años, ha sido diagnosticado recientemente con cáncer de riñón, una noticia devastadora que ha golpeado profundamente a nuestra familia.

Victor Hugo siempre ha sido un hombre bromista, fuerte, independiente y de gran corazón. Durante muchos años vivió acompañado de nuestra madre, a quien cuidó día y noche mientras ella atravesaba un cáncer de páncreas. Su dedicación fue total: estuvo a su lado hasta su partida hace seis años, demostrando una fortaleza y valor admirables. Jamás imaginamos que la vida nos pondría nuevamente frente a una situación tan dura, y mucho menos que sería él quien tendría que enfrentar este camino.

La enfermedad salió a la luz luego de una caída que le provocó múltiples fracturas en distintas partes del cuerpo. Desde entonces, mi hermano no puede caminar sin ayuda de una andadera y muchas veces depende de una silla de ruedas. Vive con movilidad muy limitada y con dolores intensos y constantes que afectan su día a día.

Viviendo en Venezuela y sin un seguro médico, enfrentar este diagnóstico se vuelve prácticamente imposible económicamente. El tratamiento indicado consiste en inmunoterapia, combinando pastillas diarias de uso indefinido e inyecciones que deben ser administradas en la clínica, cada 21 días. Su oncóloga, la doctora Carolina Reboso, ha indicado también una cirugía para retirar el tumor, posiblemente implicando la remoción completa del riñón. El costo de una cirugía de este tipo más los gastos de medicamentos permanentes, exámenes de sangre semanales, hidrataciones, honorarios médicos, enfermeras, rayos X, resonancias magnéticas y mucho más en los próximos meses y sin tener una fecha de culminación, hacen que tengamos que recurrir a el apoyo de todos ustedes para que mi hermano pueda tener el mejor tratamiento que podamos ofrecerle, y con ello un alivio a sus dolores y una nueva esperanza de vida.

Quería también aprovechar este espacio para compartir con ustedes que durante los últimos 20 días desde que mi hermano recibió el diagnóstico, hemos recibido una cantidad inmensa de muestras de amor y apoyo de amigos, vecinos y de nuestra familia más cercana que han hecho este difícil camino mucho más llevadero. Nuestro eterno agradecimiento a todos ellos y a los que a partir de ahora se sumen a ayudarnos con su aporte económico si les es posible, o simplemente elevando una oración por la salud de mi hermano.

My name is Karina Guzmán, and today I turn with great humility to the support of family members, friends, and compassionate people. My brother, Victor Hugo Guzmán, 64 years old, has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer — devastating news that has deeply shaken our family. Victor Hugo has always been a cheerful, strong, independent man with a big heart. For many years he lived with our mother, whom he cared for day and night while she battled pancreatic cancer. His dedication was total: he remained by her side until her passing six years ago, demonstrating admirable strength and courage. We never imagined that life would place us again in front of such a difficult situation, and even less that it would be him who would have to face this journey. The illness came to light after a fall that caused multiple fractures in different parts of his body. Since then, my brother cannot walk without the assistance of a walker and often depends on a wheelchair. He lives with very limited mobility and intense, constant pain that affects his daily life. Living in Venezuela and without medical insurance, facing this diagnosis becomes practically impossible from a financial standpoint. The recommended treatment consists of immunotherapy, combining daily pills to be taken indefinitely and injections that must be administered at the clinic every 21 days. His oncologist, Dr. Carolina Reboso, has also indicated surgery to remove the tumor, possibly involving the complete removal of the kidney. The cost of this type of surgery, together with ongoing medication expenses, weekly blood tests, hydration treatments, medical fees, nursing care, X-rays, MRIs, and much more in the coming months — with no clear end date — means that we must turn to all of you for support so that my brother can receive the best treatment we can offer him, bringing relief from his pain and a renewed hope for life. Out of respect for his privacy, in this campaign we are sharing only some general medical reports. I would also like to use this space to share that during the past 20 days since my brother received his diagnosis, we have received an immense amount of love and support from friends, neighbors, and close family members who have made this difficult path much more bearable.
