Somos el esposo, papas, hermanos, primos, tíos y amigos de Nancy Luna Victoria Valle.

Queremos compartir la historia de esta guerrera que aun cuando le ha tocado vivir cosas muy fuertes a su edad siempre ha mantenido una actitud positiva y luchadora.

La historia de lucha de nuestra querida Nancy, Peruana, de 33 años de edad, empieza en el 2020 cuando le diagnosticaron cáncer al seno maxilar derecho de la cara. El tumor era un Osteosarcoma de alto grado (80% fibroblástico y 20% osteoblástico); quiere decir, un tumor sumamente agresivo que crece rápidamente. Para que se den una idea, descubrió el tumor en abril 2020 del tamaño de un barrito y a junio 2020, había crecido al tamaño de un limón.

Al ver que el bulto había crecido en corto tiempo, Nancy acudió a un odontólogo quien luego de varios exámenes y derivaciones con especialistas le solicitaron una tomografía donde se veía claramente que el tumor había carcomido gran parte del hueso del maxilar superior derecho, comprometiendo el paladar y la encía del mismo lado de la cara. El siguiente paso era una biopsia, la cual se realizó los últimos días de julio donde le diagnosticaron el cáncer. El primer trauma que Nancy tuvo que enfrentar es que quedaría mutilada por la enfermedad.

El 11 de septiembre 2020 le realizaron la primera cirugía, donde retiraron todo el maxilar superior derecho junto con la mitad del paladar, los dientes y encía del mismo lado de la cara de manera intraoral; es decir, por la boca sin cortarle la cara (de todas maneras, quedaron restos de células malas en el hueso malar).

Con los resultados de patología y una vez identificado el tipo de cáncer, los doctores determinaron el tipo de tratamiento a llevar. Nancy comenzó con un esquema intercalado de quimioterapias cada 21 días por un año. Logro terminar las quimioterapias el 22 de octubre de 2021 con éxito. Sin embargo, como efecto secundario de estas, le diagnosticaron leucoencefalopatía producto del metotrexato y micro infartos cerebrales por trombosis en la carótida. Esto le originó pérdida de fuerza y control en brazos, piernas, cabeza y pérdida del habla temporal por un periodo de 7 días. Gracias a Dios, logró recuperarse sin que la enfermedad deje secuelas, pero tuvo que volver seguido al hospital para sus controles.

Todo iba bien hasta marzo 2022, donde comenzó nuevamente a sentir dolores fuertes en el globo ocular y hueso malar; con estos síntomas, los doctores adelantaron sus tomografías para el 2 de abril y le sugirieron adicionar una resonancia, la cual realizó el 20 de mayo. Los exámenes confirmaron que el cáncer había vuelto.

Con dichos resultados, el 24 de mayo de 2022, los doctores del hospital donde era atendida, le indicaron que la única opción para tratar el tumor era una nueva cirugía debido a que la radioterapia en ese momento podía ser contraproducente por ser un tumor de hueso; además, era necesario retirar todo el hueso, tejido comprometido y más, para evitar su propagación; eso implicaba retirar todo el hueso malar que sostiene el ojo derecho junto con el pómulo más un margen de tejido sano.

Por diferentes circunstancias, Nancy fue operada por segunda vez el 6 de julio de 2022 (la cirugía duró aproximadamente 4 horas y media). En el informe verbal que brindaron a la familia, la doctora a cargo indicó que lograron retirarle con éxito lo indicado anteriormente y para ello, tuvieron que cortarle esta vez la cara por el parpado inferior del ojo y la cien hasta llegar a la altura de la oreja; sin embargo, como el tumor estaba muy cerca de la órbita ocular, indicó que lo ideal para erradicar la enfermedad por completo era retirar todo el ojo y más, pero como no le habían informado de esa posible opción y no tenían su consentimiento, no procedieron. Días antes de la operación, los doctores solicitaron actualizar la resonancia, la cual no se llevó a cabo por la alta demanda del hospital; por ello, la cirugía se vio limitada, situación que actualmente compromete de manera grave su salud y vida (habría la posibilidad de someterla nuevamente a una tercera cirugía sin tener claridad de un tratamiento certero para su tipo de cáncer).

Lamentablemente, el cáncer que padece Nancy (Osteosarcoma) tiene un comportamiento atípico y su mutación es impredecible, por ello necesita con urgencia ser atendida en un lugar con el equipo médico y tecnológico adecuado que pueda brindarle el tratamiento necesario para mejorar su pronóstico de vida.

Por lo antes expuesto, toda la familia: esposo, padres, hermanos, primos, tíos y amigos, nos estamos uniendo para ayudarla con gastos de viajes, hospedaje, medicina, tratamiento y posiblemente otra cirugía, pero esta vez fuera del Perú. We are the husband, parents, brothers, cousins, uncles and friends of Nancy Luna Victoria Valle.

The story of struggle of our beloved Nancy, Peruvian, 33 years old, begins in 2020 when she was diagnosed with cancer in the right maxillary sinus of her face. The tumor was a high-grade Osteosarcoma (80% fibroblastic and 20% osteoblastic); that is, a highly aggressive tumor that grows rapidly. To give you an idea, she discovered the tumor in April 2020 the size of a pimple and as of June 2020, it had grown to the size of a lemon.

Seeing that the lump had grown in a short time, Nancy went to a dentist who, after several tests and referrals to specialists, requested a tomography where it was clearly seen that the tumor had eaten away a large part of the upper right maxillary bone, compromising the palate and the gum on the same side of the face. The next step was a biopsy, which was performed in the last days of July where she was diagnosed with cancer. The first trauma that Nancy had to face is that she would be crippled by the disease.

On September 11, 2020, she underwent the first surgery, where they removed the entire upper right jaw along with half of the palate, teeth and gums on the same side of the face intraorally; that is, through her mouth without cutting her face (remains of bad cells remained in the malar bone anyway).

With the pathology results and once the type of cancer was identified, the doctors determined the type of treatment to undergo. Nancy was started on an interspersed schedule of chemotherapy every 21 days for a year. She successfully completed chemotherapy on October 22, 2021. However, as a side effect of these, she was diagnosed with methotrexate-induced leukoencephalopathy and cerebral micro-infarcts due to carotid thrombosis. This caused her to lose strength and control in her arms, legs, head and temporary loss of speech for a period of 7 days. Thank God, she managed to recover without the disease leaving sequels, but she had to return to the hospital often for her controls.

Everything was going well until March 2022, when she again began to feel severe pain in the eyeball and malar bone; With these symptoms, the doctors advanced her CT scans to April 2 and suggested adding an MRI, which she performed on May 20. Tests confirmed that the cancer had returned.

With these results, on May 24, 2022, the doctors at the hospital where she was treated, told her that the only option to treat the tumor was a new surgery because radiotherapy at that time could be counterproductive because it is a tumor of bone; In addition, it was necessary to remove all the bone, compromised tissue and more, to prevent its spread; that involved removing the entire malar bone that supports the right eye along with the cheekbone plus a margin of healthy tissue.

Due to different circumstances, Nancy was operated on for the second time on July 6, 2022 (the surgery lasted approximately 4 and a half hours). In the verbal report that they provided to the family, the doctor in charge indicated that they managed to successfully remove what was indicated above and for this, they had to cut her face this time by the lower eyelid and the hundred until reaching the height of the ear; however, as the tumor was very close to the eye socket, he indicated that the ideal way to completely eradicate the disease was to remove the entire eye and more, but since they had not informed her of this possible option and did not have her consent, they did not proceed. Days before the operation, the doctors requested to update the MRI, which was not carried out due to the high demand of the hospital; therefore, the surgery was limited, a situation that currently seriously compromises her health and her life (there would be the possibility of subjecting her to a third surgery again without having clarity on an accurate treatment for her type of cancer).

Unfortunately, the cancer that Nancy suffers from (Osteosarcoma) has an atypical behavior and its mutation is unpredictable, which is why she urgently needs to be treated in a place with the appropriate medical and technological equipment that can provide the necessary treatment to improve her life prognosis.

Due to the above, the whole family: husband, parents, brothers, cousins, uncles and friends, are joining together to help her with travel expenses, lodging, medicine, treatment and possibly another surgery, but this time outside of Peru.
