Hola querida familia y amigos,
Desafortunadamente, ha llegado el momento de enviar este mensaje, intentaré hacerlo breve. Como ya muchos saben, nuestro papa, Dariel Alvarado, mejor conocido como Dr. Pirita, está pasando por un momento muy complicado de salud, con dos cirugías mayores en menos de una semana (bueno ahora 3, ver actualización) ; y voy por partes. Hace poco más una semana, le han operado de emergencia debido a una obstrucción intestinal, de la cual se estaba recuperando satisfactoriamente, a pesar de haber estado en UCI unos días. Sin embargo, y después de haber sido enviado a casa, al día siguiente ha vuelto a recaer y han tenido que volver a operarle de emergencia. Y lastimosamente, el diagnostico actual es que ha sufrido una sepsis, falla renal, aunado a un cuadro de diabetes y con cardiopatía mixta. Actualmente se encuentra en UCI, con apoyo de ventilador mecánico.
*Actualización de la historia*: Hoy, 15 de marzo, le han tenido que volver a operar debido a una nueva perforación, la ha vuelto a resistir, es increíble, papi sigue luchando, así que nosotros no podemos hacer menos! Ahora sigue en la UCI, recuperandose, y mañana empezará las diálisis.
Quienes conocen el estatus de Venezuela saben lo difícil que es afrontar todos los costos generados por las instituciones de salud privadas, es decir, las clínicas, que a su vez son las únicas que cuentan con los recursos materiales para poder ayudarle en su recuperación. Y de verdad que lo estamos intentando todo, en movimiento cielo y tierra como se dice, pero para rematar tenemos limitaciones para viajar por las restricciones internacionales ante la pandemia viral del Covid-19. Por lo que más que nunca necesitamos tu ayuda. Y da igual cuanto puedas donar, cada céntimo cuenta en estos momentos y estaremos infinitamente agradecidos por toda la ayuda. De corazón, lo único que queremos es tener a papi, al Pirita de siempre, de vuelta con nosotros. En Dios confiamos.

Dear family and friends,
Unfortunately, the time has come to send this message. As many of you already know, our father, Dariel Alvarado, better known as Dr. Pirita, is going through a very difficult time regarding his health. He has been through two major surgeries in less than a week (now 3, see update below!), and is now currently in ICU, with the support of a mechanical ventilator. I will summarize the situation a little:
A few days ago, he had to have an emergency surgery due to an intestinal obstruction, from which he was recovering ok after having to stay in the ICU for a few days. He was sent home, but then the next day he relapsed and had to have emergency surgery again, this one more than 7 hours. It got complicated, and unfortunately the current status is that he is fighting infections and kidney failure, combined with a picture of diabetes and with mixed heart disease.
*Update* Today, March 15, they had to operate again due to another perforation. He miraculously faught his way through it and is now back in the ICU, but in critical state. Now we wait for him to recover, and tomorrow morning they will start dialysis.
Those who know of the Venezuelan situation know how difficult it is to deal with the costs generated by private health institutions, which are the only ones that have the equipment and resources to help with his recovery. Right now we are facing numbers close to 25-30.000 dollars, not knowing how much it will increase with the time needed in the hospital. Although we are doing everything we can, my dad’s friends and colleagues are collecting money in Venezuela, and family in the US and Norway are helping any way they can, we still have limitations, not to mention the fact that we can’t travel due to international restrictions in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. So more than ever… we need your help. Every dollar counts right now, and we will be endlessly grateful for all your help.
We just want to have dad, the old Pirita, back with us.
