Max’s condition remains very serious and continues to evolve quickly.
After further neurological evaluations, the doctors now believe that yesterday’s suspected diagnosis of polyradiculoneuritis is becoming less likely, as many of the facial neurological symptoms improved once the heavy sedation and medications were reduced.
However, Max is still experiencing severe spinal pain and rapidly progressing neurological symptoms. The medical team is currently considering several possible causes, including a compressive disc hernia, severe spinal inflammation, spinal shock, a spinal infarction/clot, or in the worst-case scenario, myelomalacia — although this has NOT been confirmed.
At the moment, Max has lost many reflexes and is unable to urinate on his own, requiring a urinary catheter because his body is no longer responding properly to certain nerve impulses.
The next critical step is an MRI, which is urgently needed to determine exactly what is happening in his spinal cord and whether emergency surgery may be necessary. Unfortunately, MRI availability for dogs is limited and we are currently racing against time while waiting for an appointment.
For now, Max remains hospitalized under constant monitoring, intensive pain management, anti-inflammatory treatment, antibiotics, and neurological support.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every donation, message, prayer, and act of kindness. Your support is helping us continue fighting for Max and giving him every possible chance to recover
