As a family, we’ve been through incredibly difficult moments with our health, and now it is my brother and my nephew León who are facing a major challenge. That’s why I’m asking for your support today — to help León, a joyful, loving, and energetic 3-year-old who needs heart surgery.

Message from his parents

Hi everyone, we’re Paulina and Fabián, proud parents of León, a 3-year-old boy, loving, energetic, and endlessly curious — he loves exploring and discovering the world around him.

After several years of uncertainty, doctors at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) confirmed that León has a complex congenital heart condition called Intermediate Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), and that he needs heart repair surgery to correct it and protect his long-term health.

The hospital provided an estimated cost of about AUD 55,000.

Our private insurance will cover part of it, but we still need to pay around AUD 22,000 ourselves.

These costs may vary depending on how León recovers or if he needs further treatments in the future.

For the hospital to move forward with the surgery, León must have access to Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system, which would cover his follow-up treatment and future medical needs.

That’s why we created this campaign — to raise the funds needed to cover the cost of the surgery and the steps required to access Medicare, ensuring León receives the care he needs.

We know it’s not easy to ask for help, but we do it from the heart, hoping to give León the chance to access his surgery and the medical care he needs to live a healthy life.

Hoy recurro nuevamente a la solidaridad que alguna vez nos sostuvo cuando mi hijo enfrentó la leucemia. Como familia hemos vivido momentos muy duros relacionados con la salud, y ahora le toca a mi hermano y a mi sobrino León enfrentar un desafío enorme. Por eso, esta vez pido su apoyo para ayudar a León, un niño de 3 años lleno de vida, energía y amor, que necesita una cirugía al corazón.

Hola, somos Paulina y Fabián, papás de León, un niño de 3 años, alegre, cariñoso y lleno de energía, que ama descubrir el mundo y explorar cada día.

Después de varios años de sospechas, los médicos del Hospital de Niños de Perth (PCH) finalmente confirmaron que León tiene una enfermedad cardíaca congénita compleja llamada Defecto del Septo Atrioventricular Intermedio (AVSD), y que necesita una cirugía de reparación cardíaca para corregir el defecto y asegurar su bienestar a futuro.

El hospital nos entregó una estimación de costos de aproximadamente 55.000 dólares australianos.

Nuestro seguro cubrirá una parte, pero debemos pagar alrededor de 22.000 dólares de nuestro bolsillo.

Estos montos pueden variar dependiendo de cómo evolucione León o si necesita más tratamientos en el futuro.

Para que el hospital pueda programar la cirugía, León necesita tener acceso a Medicare, el sistema público de salud australiano, que cubriría sus controles posteriores y futuras necesidades médicas.

Por eso, esta campaña busca reunir los fondos necesarios para cubrir el costo de la cirugía y los pasos previos que nos permitan acceder a Medicare, asegurando que León reciba la atención que necesita.

Sabemos que no es fácil pedir ayuda, pero lo hacemos desde el corazón, con la esperanza de darle a León la oportunidad de acceder a su cirugía y a los cuidados médicos que necesita para vivir sano.
