In just three years, Gino has undergone five brain surgeries—and he is still fighting.

Gino is facing the toughest battle of his life after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. Through it all, he remains a devoted husband to his wife Claudia and a loving father to their two young children.

A lifelong pilot, Gino built his career flying for several airlines and was a proud ALPA member. After his diagnosis and initial surgery, he was no longer able to fly and had to step away from the career he loved. Determined to continue providing for his family and unable to secure Long Term Disability benefits, he pushed forward through chemotherapy and its many challenges. Drawing on his experience, he secured a role as a simulator instructor with Airbus, while his wife Claudia also returned to work to support their family.

Gino continued working and supporting his family through multiple surgeries, always putting them first. About six months ago, the cancer returned. Following his most recent surgery, his condition worsened significantly, he lost more mobility and, most devastatingly, part of his ability to speak. He is now unable to work.

While medical insurance covers much of his treatment, many critical expenses are not covered. At the same time, Claudia must now dedicate even more of her time to caring for Gino, further impacting their household income.

This has placed a significant financial strain on their family.

A veces la vida cambia en un instante. Para Gino Román, ese momento llegó con un diagnóstico que transformó completamente su vida y la de su familia. Piloto de 43 años, Gino ha dedicado su vida a volar y a cuidar de otros desde el cielo, trabajando para aerolíneas internacionales como LATAM Airlines, Malaysia Airlines ,Spirit Airlines y y miembro de ALPA y SIPLAP. También fue instructor de simulador para Airbus, formando a muchos pilotos que hoy continúan volando alrededor del mundo. La aviación no era solo su profesión, sino su pasión y la forma en que sostuvo a su familia durante toda su carrera.

Hoy, Gino enfrenta la batalla más difícil de su vida tras ser diagnosticado con un agresivo cáncer cerebral. Desde entonces, ha tenido que someterse a cinco cirugías cerebrales para remover tumores y darle una oportunidad de seguir luchando. Cada cirugía ha sido una batalla enorme. Como consecuencia de la enfermedad y las operaciones, Gino ha perdido el movimiento en la mitad de su cuerpo, cambiando completamente su vida de un día para otro. Para alguien que pasó su vida volando aviones y enseñando a otros pilotos, esta realidad ha sido profundamente dura.

Gino es esposo y padre de dos niños pequeños en etapa escolar. Su esposa permanece a su lado todos los días, acompañándolo y luchando junto a él en este proceso tan difícil, mientras su familia enfrenta uno de los momentos más delicados de sus vidas. Sus hijos todavía necesitan a su papá en momentos muy importantes de su crecimiento, y su familia continúa apoyándolo con amor y esperanza mientras Gino sigue luchando con una fortaleza increíble. Además de la batalla médica, también enfrentan el peso de tratamientos y terapias de rehabilitación , mientras continúa su proceso de recuperación.
