Our beloved Geraldine has been struggling with Bipolar Affective Disorder since the age of 16. Now, at 48 years old, she has been hospitalized many times throughout her life due to severe crises.

For years, her parents and sisters took care of her, providing medical support and covering all her expenses. Sadly, her parents are no longer with us, and her sisters, despite doing everything they can, can no longer afford the financial burden of her treatment.

This most recent crisis has been the hardest one yet: Geraldine experienced severe agitation, tormenting delusions, and aggressive behavior that endangered herself and others. She wandered the streets disoriented, without clothes, frightening her neighbors, and even destroyed her home during moments of confusion. Because of this, doctors urgently hospitalized her three weeks ago in a psychiatric clinic, where she remains under specialized treatment and constant medical supervision.

In just the last few weeks, more than $10.000 dollars have already been spent on hospitalization, medications, and medical tests. Although she has shown slight improvement, doctors strongly recommend that she remain hospitalized for several more weeks until she is truly stabilized. After that, she will still require medication, therapy, and long-term psychiatric follow-up.

We have attached some of the receipts already paid, but there are still many weeks of treatment ahead that the family simply cannot cover on their own.

That is why we turn to you. Your help —big or small— will allow Geraldine to continue receiving the care she urgently needs to regain her life and her health.

Nuestra querida Geraldine ha luchado contra el Trastorno Afectivo Bipolar desde que tenía 16 años. A lo largo de su vida, ahora con 48 años, ha sido hospitalizada en múltiples ocasiones debido a crisis graves.

Durante todos estos años, sus padres y hermanas se han encargado de darle cuidados médicos y cubrir todos sus gastos. Lamentablemente, sus padres ya no están con nosotros y sus hermanas, aunque han hecho todo lo posible, ya no cuentan con los recursos económicos para sostener este tratamiento.

Esta última crisis ha sido la más difícil de todas: Geraldine sufrió episodios de agitación severa, delirios tormentosos y conductas agresivas que atentaron contra su propia seguridad y la de otros. Llegó a deambular por las calles perdida, sin ropa, atemorizando a vecinos y destruyendo su vivienda en medio de la confusión. Por estas razones, los médicos decidieron hospitalizarla de urgencia hace tres semanas en una clínica psiquiátrica, donde permanece bajo tratamiento especializado y supervisión constante.

En estas últimas semanas ya se han gastado más de $10.000 dólares en hospitalización, medicinas y exámenes médicos. Aunque ha mostrado ligeros avances, los especialistas recomiendan que continúe hospitalizada varias semanas más para lograr una verdadera estabilización. Después de eso, necesitará medicación, terapia y un seguimiento psiquiátrico de largo plazo.

Adjuntamos algunos de los recibos ya cubiertos, pero todavía faltan varias semanas de tratamiento que sobrepasan las posibilidades de la familia.
