Hello, my name is Joselyn Viera García. I am Frances’s sister. Frances has been facing a difficult battle against colon cancer since 2022. She is a wife, sister, aunt, friend, and so much more. She is an extraordinary human being with a special light and an immense desire to live.
My sister Frances was diagnosed in 2022 with stage IIIB colon adenocarcinoma. After receiving chemotherapy treatment between September 2022 and March 2023, the disease progressed, and she is now facing stage IV cancer, with metastases in multiple areas of her body, including abdominal, para-aortic, precaval, mesenteric, and mediastinal lymph nodes, as well as a subclavicular lesion, involvement of the left lung and liver, and several lesions in the peritoneum. These peritoneal lesions caused ascites (a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity) and, as a result, she suffered a complete collapse of her left lung, requiring three weeks of hospitalization.
At this time, one of the greatest concerns is the peritoneal metastasis, which requires highly specialized medical care. There is a surgical option that involves removing the tumors present in the peritoneum and administering chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity as part of a specialized treatment for this disease. This procedure is not performed in Puerto Rico and has limited availability in the United States. For this reason Frances has to seek medical treatment in Europe. Her medical insurance does not cover any of these medical expenses, since it outside of Puerto Rico. Frances needs to travel to Europe to be evaluated by specialists with experience in this type of treatment.
Frances has already secured three medical appointments for November: two in Spain and another in Germany. Now she needs our help to get there to cover a portion of the surgery’s cost, which alone costs $68,000. She would need our help to cover the costs of medical evaluations, airfare, accommodations, transportation, medical treatment, surgery, and other expenses related to this process.
After more than four years of facing this disease, Frances continues to fight, searching for alternatives and holding on to the hope of finding a treatment that can give her another chance at life.
Today, I ask you to become part of her fight. Together, with every donation, no matter the amount, we can bring her one step closer to that opportunity. And if you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign is also a very valuable way to help.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing by Frances, for sharing her story, for your prayers, and for helpi/ng her continue searching for an alternative treatment.
Let’s help my sister get to where that opportunity may be waiting for her. With love, hope, and solidarity, we can make a difference. Without that treatment, she has an expected life expectancy of 12 months.
